The Spanish dean of human age, Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, died at the age of 112 years and 341 days, three weeks before his 113 years of age.
And Agence France-Presse quoted the Guinness Book of Records as saying today that the Spaniard Garcia, born in Puente Castro on February 11, 1909, was previously classified as the oldest person in the world at the age of 112 years and 211 days.
The encyclopedia indicated that Garcia has seven children and 14 grandchildren, in addition to 22 great-grandchildren, explaining that during his lifetime he was able to establish a successful shoe company.
Although Garcia is among the oldest centenarians, the longevity record is still held in the name of the French Jeanne Calman, who lived 112 years and 164 days until her death in 1997, according to the encyclopedia website.
