The economy is booming in mechanical engineering.

Only the lack of chips slows Trumpf's expectations.

When the Prime Minister of the Green Party visits the company headquarters, the head of the company is speeding up the fight against higher taxes.

Ditzingen - Good news from mechanical engineering in the southwest: The laser specialist Trumpf expects an increase of 50 percent more orders in the current financial year - that would be a record, and that in the Corona crisis. In the first half of the 2021/2022 financial year, incoming orders were "at a record level" after the previous six months had been weaker, said Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, CEO, on Wednesday during a visit by Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens ) at the company headquarters in Ditzingen near Stuttgart. She assumes that the economy will remain stable. "We don't have any problem regions," said the head of the global laser specialist.

For the current financial year, she continues to expect a double-digit percentage increase in sales. However, due to material shortages and other corona consequences, there are problems converting orders into sales. According to her assessment, the lack of chips cannot be solved so quickly either, and this will continue for at least six months. That is "painful". She added: "We could have a fantastic year." So the financial year will still be good, but not as good as it could be. Trumpf shareholder Mathias Kammüller said that without these obstacles, the plus of 50 percent more orders could also be converted into sales.

Leibinger-Kammüller used Kretschmann's visit to warn of new tax burdens for family businesses. In order to be able to expand innovative business areas such as quantum technology, an enormous amount of "dope" is needed. The state must avoid everything that burdens family-run companies and remain "moderate" in taxation. "The Leibinger family's money is in the company and it stays there," said the company boss, who is also a CDU member.

Kretschmann replied that he was aware of the importance of family businesses. "The country's prosperity rests on these pillars." These companies need optimal framework conditions, which he also advocated in the traffic light negotiations between the SPD, Greens and FDP in Berlin. Originally, the SPD and the Greens wanted to increase the top tax and introduce a wealth tax in the federal government, but the coalition agreement no longer mentions this.

The head of government promised that he would ensure that the state approval processes become faster.

"If we don't manage to get faster, then Germany will fall behind as a business location," warned the Greens politician.

It can't go on like this.

He will do everything to become significantly faster in the expansion of wind power.

"The jolt must not only go through Germany, it must take place now." "Disruptive ideas" are also needed to make progress here.

He could also imagine a strategy dialogue on quantum technology in the country, said Kretschmann.

Trumpf already set a record for incoming orders in the past financial year.

In the 2020/21 financial year, the family company received orders worth 3.9 billion euros - an increase of 19.7 percent.

The net profit of the laser specialist also rose from around 192 to around 237 million euros in the past financial year.

Annual sales were 3.5 billion euros - an increase of 0.5 percent compared to the 2019/20 financial year.

The group of companies employs around 14,800 people worldwide, more than half of them in Germany.
