Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the explosion, and Rehovot police officers along with a police sapper and forensic investigators are conducting scans and collecting findings to examine the background and circumstances, to find out if anyone is harmed or if it was a mistake in identification.
Preliminary specifications obtained show that the driver is a resident of Rehovot, with no criminal record, and that the explosion occurred after he started his vehicle.
Meanwhile, an investigation was opened last night in the Ayalon district of the police, with a report of an explosion of a pipe bomb in the stairwell of a residential building on Yitzhak Nissim Street in Holon.
No injuries were reported.
The explosion damaged the building, and the police estimate that the background to the incident is criminal because a person known to be involved in several criminal disputes lives nearby.
