We tested the ZenBook Duo 14: is it worth paying more than $1,000 for this laptop?

This Asus laptop will boost your productivity thanks to the second screen that is optimized for Adobe packaging.

Yes, it is a very nice laptop, but you have to keep in mind that it is worth more than $1,000.

However, this Asus laptop focuses on design and draws attention with its two screens.

We had the opportunity to test the ZenBook Duo 14 and while we were amazed at the image quality and how productive it is to have a second screen located in the keyboard, we will give you all the details of this device.

The great success: the second screen

Asus' dual-screen design is undeniably visually appealing and I think design-wise it's a cut above other manufacturers who have released dual-screen laptops.

This version of the ZenBook Duo features a 14-inch Full HD NanoEdge main screen while the second screen, called ScreenPad Plus, is smaller at 12.6 inches, big enough for you to optimize the multitasking experience by extending your screen, putting another window or by positioning special controls within some applications such as Adobe's package, for which it is optimized.

Both screens are touch screens and have up to 400 nits of brightness, which helps a lot when consuming multimedia content.

Also, it's important to note that the ScreenPad Plus can be raised so it doesn't sit flat on the keyboard, giving you a better viewing angle while also leaving room for the fans (located below it) to keep cool team.

If you have an extra monitor, you can think of this little screen as an extra viewing spot and pulling content "down" is as easy as dragging pages, apps or windows as you would with an extra monitor.

During our tests we used it to put the audio editing controls, to keep Spotify open in the background and as an extended screen to read long articles.

It works correctly the vast majority of the time, although there are also applications (such as Audacity) that take a bit of time to adapt to the small screen.

The ScreenPad Plus controls

The ScreenPad Plus has software that makes it easier to use but being touch, we must say that it is not always necessary to touch the small screen with your finger to select objects or move windows.

Here you will have to take advantage of the shortcut buttons to use the second screen, adjust its brightness and more.

If you're someone who frequently uses apps like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, and more Adobe software, this laptop will definitely give you that touch of productivity you need by coming optimized to work entirely on this extended screen.

Features ZenBook Duo

A 14-inch laptop is easy to stow in a bag or backpack, but if you're worried it'll weigh too much due to the dual screens, this won't be a problem because it weighs 3.5 pounds, just over a kilogram.

It is a device that looks elegant, clean and compact when you have it closed.

It's made of magnesium alloy (which allows it to be light), makes it look good and feel good quality.

Regarding the lid, we will see a radial brushed design that comes out from the Asus logo, making it not look as simple as other devices.

We had to try the Celestial Blue color version, which definitely left us fascinated.

It has input from a USB 3.1 port, two USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support, an HDMI connection, a microSD card reader and a headphone jack.

The base model features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, and 512GB of storage.

ZenBook Duo Price

In

Amazon Mexico You can currently find the version of the ZenBook Duo with Intel Core i7 at

MX$ 64,990

and you have the possibility of paying it for up to 12 months without interest.

While on Amazon United States

you'll find the base version with Intel Core i5 for

$1,350.

What we didn't like so much about the ZenBook Duo

Not everything was positive during our testing time with the team.

Among the functions we gave him was the writing of articles that you can read on CNN Undescored in Spanish, and it was during that process that we noticed something that we did not easily get used to.

I would recommend using it with a small mouse that has a Bluetooth connection like the Logitech Pebble M350 (

 MX$ 294 and

$19.99 USD;

on Amazon) because the touchpad isn't very comfortable even though it's taller than a regular laptop.

It feels a bit cramped and doesn't give much room to scroll, causing your wrist to bump or inadvertently press on the buttons underneath.

It's functional, but being such an important component for a laptop, it's not ideal.

The keyboard is a bit cramped and there is no room to rest your wrists, which you start to notice after several hours of typing.

Although I did like the design and typography that Asus gave to this keyboard because it makes it easy to find the symbol or letter you are looking for without much effort.

conclusion

The star of the ZenBook Duo 14 is definitely the double screen that makes this device one of the most attractive on the market.

The dual panel design is especially stylish and will elevate your productivity.

While the second screen isn't always perfect, having this second monitor will be convenient and makes it a worthy rival to the Dell XPS 13 and MacBook Pros.

  • Asus is inspired by space to create this new laptop

Although the price is high, it is worth the investment either for the productivity advantages, the optimization in Adobe applications or simply because you liked the design that Asus gave it.
