Damascus-SANA
Al-Mouwasat University Hospital in Damascus will return to its normal condition as of Monday 24-1-2022 in terms of receiving cold cases and working in outpatient clinics, with a decrease in the number of Corona cases in isolation and care rooms, and the number of patients with suspicious symptoms.
Director of Al-Mouwasat University Hospital in Damascus, Dr. Issam Al-Amin, explained to SANA’s delegate that the decision came due to the necessities of the public interest and the proper functioning of work, and after the decline in admissions in isolation rooms and intensive care designated for Corona patients.
Al-Amin indicated that the number of Corona cases in the isolation and care rooms within the hospital does not currently exceed six, pointing out at the same time that the number of cases referred to ambulance has significantly decreased after it was up to 15 severe and critical cases daily.
Al-Amin suggested that the new Corona infections were from the “Omicron” mutant, compared to what is recorded in the countries of the world in terms of symptoms, despite the lack of laboratory capacity in Syria to confirm this.
The Omicron mutant differs from the Delta mutant according to the Secretary in terms of symptoms. The first has mild symptoms, similar to a normal cold, “mild heat and nasopharyngeal pain” and the duration of its recovery does not exceed five days, and its death rate does not exceed one in a thousand, while the death rate of the delta ranges between 2.5 and 3%.
The Director of Al-Mowasat Hospital reiterated that the anti-Corona vaccines approved by the World Health Organization cover all current mutations, and that the treatment approach is the same, stressing the need not to neglect preventive measures in the absence of a specific treatment and medicine for Corona, and to take the vaccine that prevents severe and critical infections.
According to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Health, the total number of Corona injuries recorded in Syria so far has exceeded 50,000 cases, of which about 35,000 have been cured and 2,953 have died.
