Wolfratshausen - "WOR for Future" is against taxonomy and gas and nuclear energy.

The activists from "WOR for Future" are campaigning locally for climate protection and are now also taking part in the nationwide campaign #VollgasInDieKrise, with which the federal government is being asked to oppose the current draft of the taxonomy.

Under this scheme, the government could invest further in natural gas infrastructure and nuclear power, which would then be classified as sustainable energy.

According to the Fridays for Future activists, however, this is harmful to the climate and the environment.

The group in Wolfratshausen is also campaigning against the "greenwashing of gas and atom through taxonomy", said Jan Reiners from "WOR for Future".

"With this taxonomy, billions of dollars in money are channeled," Reiners points out.

It is about which forms of energy future sustainable, i.e. "green" investment funds will invest in, whether only in wind and solar energy use or also in nuclear or gas.

"Olaf Scholz presents himself to the outside world as climate chancellor, but behind closed doors he promotes the inclusion of gas and accepts the classification of nuclear power as sustainable.

We won't let this duplicity get away," criticizes Reiners.

Nuclear power is by far the most expensive form of energy, even without the incalculable residual risk and the unclear final storage.

Reiners demands: "We must be climate-neutral by 2045."

"We disagree"

However, none of the new reactors would be in operation in 2045 and would have fulfilled the promises made.

But the world powers that had nuclear weapons needed the nuclear fuel cycle.

“They want to keep the civilian use of nuclear power in order to get weapons-grade nuclear material.

We vehemently disagree with that,” explains Reiners.

Natural gas cannot compete with solar energy and is harmful to the climate.

New studies would show that the carbon footprint of fossil gas is sometimes even worse than that of coal if leakages during production and transport are included.

Any power plant that is being built now will run for decades and heat up the atmosphere.

In the opinion of "WOR for Future" new natural gas projects should not be promoted.

Generating electricity from nuclear power and gas is not sustainable.

As a result, nuclear and gas should not be classified as sustainable investments within the framework of the EU taxonomy.
