Bikes instead of cars: where the mayor used to park, the garage for bikes should go.

This building alone costs 100,000 euros.

With two further projects, the Holzkirchner town hall would like to set a good example in terms of bicycle mobility.

In order to strengthen cycling, the municipality is setting a good example.

The mayor's parking lot gives way to a bicycle shed for city hall employees.

Holzkirchen – There are too many cars driving in Holzkirchen. The municipality had already recorded this in its integrated mobility concept from 2017. The aim is therefore to reduce motor vehicle traffic and increase pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The town hall wants to set a good example here, as became clear at the most recent meeting of the main committee. In order to make it easier for employees to switch from car to bicycle, a covered bicycle house is now to be built, reported Martin Baier from the building authority. It will be built in the parking lot behind the town hall, where the mayor's parking lot is currently located. The garage should be able to accommodate 20 bikes and two cargo bikes, and there is a charging station for e-bikes. It will be made of Corten steelwhich is characterized by special weather resistance and low maintenance requirements. According to initial estimates, the municipality will have to raise a good 100,000 euros for this.

Total: "Ordinary Number"

A prize that was not welcomed by all local councillors.

Anita Gritschneder (Greens) praised the expansion of the cycling infrastructure.

But she has a problem with the high costs.

She worries about the possible external impact of the project.

"That could fall on our feet," said Gritschneder, referring to the cost estimate.

A nice project, judged Elisabeth Dasch (SPD).

Meanwhile, she also described the total as a "respectable number".

Market master builder Florens Hintler defended the designs by architect Benno Bauer, who, in addition to his work as a planner, also works as a local home caretaker for the Miesbach district.

District master builder Christian Boiger was also involved in the planning.

"It was important to me that we hired an architect who had a feeling," says Hintler.

You have high expectations of the building.

In addition, 75 percent of the costs could be funded by the Free State, Baier added.

CSU parliamentary group spokesman Sebastian Franz noted that high-quality construction is in everyone's interests: "Otherwise we would not be able to do justice to our role model function."

There is a need for bike parking spaces

Baier reported that there was a need for bicycle parking spaces in the town hall. An earlier survey of employees revealed that many “would like to come by bike” if there is a suitable shelter. In addition to a bicycle shed for community employees, the plans of the administration include a roof over the existing bicycle spaces to the north of the town hall. According to current estimates, this results in costs of a good 15,000 euros. The parking facility for the e-bikes, which is located next to the entrance to the community library, will also be relocated and will be located on the other side of the town hall, next to the toilet facilities. The reason for this is the planned roofing: the monument protection forbids such a roof on the library building. For this, the municipality has to raise an estimated 28,000 euros, as Baier explained.

The main committee unanimously gave the green light for all three projects. In addition to improving the cycling infrastructure, the community is also setting a good example in other areas of operational mobility management, reported Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU).

Two transferable tickets were purchased for the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV), which can be used by administrative staff for business trips.

And for shorter trips there are two service bikes in the town hall that are available all year round.
