About problem children and heart projects: That's what's coming up in Garching this year

A jubilee gift that isn't really an anniversary present: the Garching fire brigade is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

As a gift, the city wanted to give her a replacement for the old guard, but we can't finish it this year.

A "heart project of my tenure", says Mayor Dietmar Gruchmann (SPD), is the completion of the building for the adult education center and neighborhood help.

The construction on Telschowstraße is right on schedule, the topping-out ceremony is planned for March and hopefully the move-in will be complete by the turn of the year.

It should be a revival for the citizens in the heart of Garching.

If only it were already that far with the construction of the new fire station.

The building with 13 parking spaces, storage and training tower was intended as a birthday present for the 150th anniversary that the fire service is celebrating this year.

Nothing stood in the way of tenders for trades and works in May 2020.

But the cost cap of 23 million euros fixed by the city council required changes and deletions, so that nothing came of the anniversary gift.

At least the laying of the foundation stone is planned for the fourth quarter, but the move from the Hueterstraße to the bypass will not take place until 2024.

Reside

The signing of the urban development contract was followed by the decision to set up the communication zone in April last year.

The "go-ahead" is actually a reason to celebrate, because 120 houses and apartments are intended to offer around 3,000 people a home and alleviate the housing shortage.

Nevertheless, there is currently no reason to rejoice, because things are "stopping" once again.

The communication zone has become a "problem child".

According to Gruchmann, eight owners and investors in one project proved to be a stumbling block.

New delays of up to a year are imminent.

Too bad, actually the excavators should have rolled in this year.

The new housing estate "Schleißheimer Kanal" is progressing rapidly, it is getting its face this year.

Things are progressing much more quickly in the “Schleißheimer Kanal” new housing estate.

The foundation stone for the seven-hectare residential area was laid at the end of 2021, and this year the quarter will be given a facelift with house-in-house concepts, shops and childcare facilities.

This is where the model of the housing cooperative will finally come into its own, because the city council will define the criteria for the concept tender in 2022 - and thus get the housing cooperative "GiGa" rolling.

Because a cooperative construction project is not only planned in the communication zone, a construction site is also planned on the canal.

If the concept is put out to tender, the "GiGa" can apply and get the hoped-for bid for the property.

schools

The start of construction for the expansion of the elementary school west is planned for spring, and this should finally be enough.

Increasing numbers of pupils, an expansion of the care offer, but also small group offers with intensive care make more classrooms and specialist rooms unavoidable. In modular construction, completion by the end of the year is even possible.

A "thick board that we are drilling," emphasizes Gruchmann, is the elementary school north in the communication zone.

The mayor fears that the calculated 60 million euros for the five-part building including the swimming pool cannot be met.

This year, however, the competition for the spatial concept has to start in order to get the school and building off the ground.

climate protection

Committed to climate protection, Garching wants to hire a climate protection officer.

Corona has prevented the renewal of the climate protection concept and the initiation of new projects.

Nevertheless, the environmental department has created an inventory analysis of the municipal buildings, now it makes sense, so Gruchmann, to create a central position and to entrust a representative with tasks.

citizen week

The people of Garching should also be able to look forward to something.

That's why the Cultural Office is working intensively on the Citizens' Week 2022. The pandemic determines exactly what this should look like, discussions are ongoing with the host, associations and institutions involved.

In the last few weeks of the past year, pleasant, positive surprises have trickled in that were not foreseeable.

Without wanting to anticipate the budget deliberations in February, Gruchmann is confident.

"We won't get any compensation payments from the district." Nevertheless, in view of the major projects that are pending, he doesn't want to make any big leaps and wants to be careful.

mobility

Two new express bus lines ensure attractive connections, short distances and a significant increase in travel time.

And at the end of 2021, the district council decided on the section for the cycle express route from Munich Central Station to the Garching research center.

This defines the basis for the further work phases, but there are no statements as yet as to whether there will be any actual action this year.
