The Southern District Attorney's Office (Criminal) today (Thursday) filed indictments in the Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court against 16 defendants from the Bedouin diaspora, including three 17-year-old minors. Riots and riots last week following planting in the Negev.

In the arrest requests, the prosecution noted that the defendants' danger intensifies in light of the circumstances of the acts, while police forces are deployed throughout the Negev, dealing with riots and mass riots, roadblocks and stone-throwing that endanger the safety and well-being of the public and police in particular.

As stated in the indictments, as of January 11, 2022, following planting work of trees carried out in various places in the Negev, by the Jewish National Fund, numerous riots and violent demonstrations developed throughout the Negev in response to planting.

During the demonstrations, Palestinian flags were raised and calls were made in condemnation of the Israeli police and the willingness to die with their hands in the ground.

As a result, many police forces have been deployed to secure the planting work, tools and workers, as well as to prevent rioters from entering the work areas in order to interfere with the planting work and ensure that the main traffic arteries remain open and safe for travel.

According to the indictments filed, the defendants, together with Hada - some of them masked - took part in riots near planting work at various intersections on Road 31 and near Segev Shalom, throwing stones at police vehicles and police officers.

Also, some of the defendants set fire to tires and blocked traffic lanes.

Among other things, the rioters ran in the direction of vehicles of civilians who were forced to stop due to blockages, jumped on their vehicle and threw large stones.

The indictments attribute to the defendants, each according to his part, committing offenses of rioting, disturbing a police officer in aggravated circumstances, acts of recklessness and negligence and more.

The cases were investigated by a township and appellant station at the Israel Police.

The prosecution seeks to detain the defendants until the end of the legal proceedings against them.

"Their actions show their danger, their daring, their lack of fear of the law, and their lack of ability to give them the confidence they need to be released as an alternative to detention," the arrest request said.
