Freddie Mercury and Munich: It was a very special relationship from 1979 to 1985.
Here he recorded the greatest hits with Queen, here he had the fun of his life and even found love with Winnie Kirchberger.
Now a monument is to commemorate the time of the superstar in Munich.
30 years after his death, he remains one of the greatest rock stars of all time: Freddie Mercury.
In Munich, the singer recorded the greatest record successes with the band Queen.
And privately experienced the best times.
This close connection with the state capital could be commemorated with a memorial in the future.
Similar to Montreux, Switzerland, where there is a statue of the singer on Lake Geneva.
An application for this is already in the town hall.

Three men submitted it: Nicola Bardola, who published a book about Freddie's time in the state capital in 2021.
Dietmar Holzapfel, who campaigns for equality for homosexuals and today runs Mercury's favorite restaurant, Deutsche Eiche.
And rock music expert Herbert Hauke, who will dedicate a large exhibition to Queen from March.
The application was received by Mayor Dieter Reiter
"We received positive signals," says Hauke.
No wonder, after all, after preliminary talks, Holzapfel submitted the application directly to the office of Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD).
"We are all for the monument," says Roland Hefter, himself a musician and SPD city councillor, with a view to the opinions in the parliamentary group.
For him, the monument would also stand for the fact that the city was once the center of the world for the biggest megastars.
In addition to Queen, the Rolling Stones and Elton John also recorded albums in the legendary Musicland Studios in the Arabella high-rise.
"The memorial would remind us of the importance of Munich."
Monument could be in the Gärtnerplatz district
The initiators see it the same way.
For Hauke.
a Freddie monument would stand for the artist's joie de vivre and the opportunity to live out his homosexuality in Munich in the 70s and 80s.
The Glockenbach or Gärtnerplatzviertel might be a good location, says Holzapfel.
What a monument could look like is completely open.
It would be conceivable to collect ideas in an artist competition.
So far, the great singer has been commemorated in two places in the city: There is a brand new Freddie-Mercury-Straße in the creative district.
His likeness also adorns an artistically designed outhouse from 1900 at Holzplatz.
