Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne had to drink whey on Thursday morning, during the European ministerial conference devoted to the Erasmus program and the development of European mobility for apprentices.
Nicolas Schmit, the European Commissioner in charge of Employment and Social Rights, indeed cited France as an example, where he had, “
in a very short time, a liberation in terms of learning
”. The country is indeed went from 280,000 young people in apprenticeship in 2017, to more than 700,000 in 2021, an absolute record.

Building on this momentum, Emmanuel Macron intends to take advantage of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union to strengthen the European dimension of apprenticeship.
If Europe celebrates this year the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus program, which since its creation has allowed more than ten million young people to benefit from an exchange during their studies, apprentices represent less than 8% of them.
