Armenia confirmed today that an agreement was reached between it and Azerbaijan through the mediation of the President of the European Council in Brussels last December regarding the withdrawal of forces from the border area between the two countries.
Commenting on the statements of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jehun Bayramov about preconditions presented by Armenia for the start of the border demarcation process, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanyan was quoted by Sputnik as saying: There are some misunderstandings on this issue and there are no preconditions on the part of Yerevan on the issue of border demarcation.
He added: We are talking about a tripartite agreement adopted in Sochi last November by the Armenian Prime Minister and the Russian and Azerbaijani presidents, where the two parties agreed under Russian auspices to take steps to increase the level of stability and security on their common borders and to work on establishing a bilateral commission for the demarcation and demarcation of the border. This agreement initiates the process of troop withdrawal through a tripartite meeting of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Brussels on December 14, mediated by the President of the European Council.
He stressed that the Armenian side's proposals are not related to preconditions, but are related to the implementation of the agreements reached, noting that Armenia believes that it is necessary to start the border demarcation process as soon as possible in accordance with the mentioned agreements.
