William Ragg, chairman of the House of Commons Committee on Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs, has confirmed that Boris Johnson's government is blackmailing members of the House of Commons to keep the latter in office.
"In recent days, a number of members of the House of Commons have been subjected to pressure and intimidation from members of the government because of their declared or presumed desire to hold a vote of no confidence in the ruling party leadership, which represents blackmail of MPs," Raj was quoted by Reuters as saying in a statement before a meeting of the committee today. .
The Raj called on members of the House of Commons to inform the Speaker and the Metropolitan Police Chief of these matters should they be exposed to them.
Raj described government MPs whose job is to ensure Conservative lawmakers support its policies as "the whips of the government" and said, "These people's job, of course, is to secure the government's interests in the House of Commons, but it is not their job to violate ministerial rules by threatening to withdraw investments from publicly funded parliamentary districts."
Johnson, who achieved a large majority within his party in 2019, is facing increasing calls to step down from his position due to a series of scandals, including his admission to attend a party held at his official residence at a time when Britain was implementing a closure to combat Covid 19.
Some younger lawmakers are spearheading attempts to oust Johnson, but it was the attack of a Tory veteran who raised eyebrows when he told Johnson in parliament: "I swear to God, I'm leaving."
