For an extension of the underground car park under the Tegernsee Kurpark, mighty linden trees would have to be felled.

A citizens' initiative is campaigning for alternatives - and invites you to the information day in the Kurpark on Saturday.

Tegernsee

- Fell 19 strong linden trees so that the underground car park can be expanded under the meadow in the Tegernsee Kurpark? “As a resident of Tegernsee, I cannot accept that,” says Barbara Enders. She is not alone in this. She has joined forces with Laura Mandl and Tilmann Domzig to form the citizens' initiative (BI) Verkehrswende Tegernsee.

A small group, still without a formal foundation, but ready to fight against the underground car park plans.

The city council had recently dealt with the planning status at the instigation of the Greens parliamentary group.

The core issue is how to solve a problem that is known to be approaching the city of Tegernsee: the lease for the central car park expires in 2025, which means that 120 parking spaces in the town center will be lost.

In order to create a replacement, two variants are under discussion: the expansion of the Kreissparkasse underground car park under the Kurpark or the construction of a multi-storey car park on the Horn property.

Planning is not finalized yet

At the request of the Greens, the head of the building department, Bettina Koch, explained the planning status.

Conclusion: Currently there are only drafts from a feasibility study, there are no specific approval procedures for underground parking or multi-storey car park.

Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU) announced a closed meeting of the city council on the subject of traffic in the spring.

There will also be parking.

In addition to the Greens in the city council, the Tegernsee Valley Protection Association (SGT) is also concerned about the linden trees in the Kurpark.

The cooperation is close: Green City Councilor Marcus Staudacher is Vice-Chairman of the SGT.

The SGT in turn supports the young BI by financing the flyers that will be distributed on the information day.

In it, the group pleads for the sake of the Linden against the underground car park extension and for an alternative on the municipal Horn property.

Citizens' initiative wants to grow

The three BI members are politically active: Enders on the citizens' list, ex-city councilor Mandl on the SPD, Domzig on the Greens.

But this has nothing to do with the activities for the Linden, explains Enders.

According to the flyer, BI wants to “bring to Tegernsee a thought process that has been around for a long time.”

The underground car park is only the first topic, there is a lot to tackle, explains Enders.

The still very small initiative is open to other members: "We are happy about everyone who takes part."
