Exuberant partying, dancing and singing - that's usually part of carnival.
But this year the fools have to do without it again: After a round table with organizers and the city, it is clear: the carnival events have been cancelled.
Munich - The market women do not dance on Shrove Tuesday at the Viktualienmarkt. "As a carnival jerk, I am very sad that the outdoor carnival has to be canceled due to Corona*," says municipal officer Kristina Frank. "But in view of the rapidly increasing number of new infections, this joint decision is reasonable." The market women had been practicing their dances for weeks, but they still understand. "It's a shame, but we expected it," says dancer boss Christl Lang. "We also have to set a good example in public." It has not yet been decided whether there will be an online presentation instead. In any case, the women are already looking forward to Carnival 2023. "We hope that things will look different then and that we can finally dance again during Carnival," says Lang.
Carnival in Munich: Organizers understand the cancellation because of Corona
Standl spokeswoman Elke Fett also thinks the cancellation is correct.
"Anything else would damage the good reputation of the market," she says.
"And no one would be comfortable with it.
Health is more important.”

The Damische Ritter, whose carnival procession in Munich* also does not take place, see it that way.
The organization of the train was already in the final phase and many groups who wanted to take part had already registered.
The decision was not easy, emphasizes the second chairman, Simon Egger.
But: "With increasing incidence values, it would be irresponsible to carry out the carnival procession." There was no alternative to the decision.
Nevertheless, the carnival is not canceled for the “Gesellige Vereinigung Die Turmfalken”: “We will definitely take part in online campaigns,” promises Egger.
Narhalla wants to visit homes for the elderly and the disabled
This is also the plan of the Narrhalla, which will also not hold any public events or carnival balls.
Nevertheless, the Narrhalla would like to "bring joy and lightness to people", as President Günther Grauer promises.
Corona-compliant visits to facilities such as retirement homes and homes for the disabled as well as various film and photo campaigns are planned.
The princely couple, his madness Leonard I and her loveliness Princess Elizabeth II, also have an Instagram channel.
"We have already prepared many ideas," announces Grauer.
