I tested positive for Covid-19 during a stay in the United States.
I am unable to have this test recognized in France in order to obtain a "certificate of recovery" and thus extend the validity of my health pass.
What to do in this situation?
Flora
Dear Flora,
Like several readers who contacted us, you tested positive during a stay in a country outside the European Union and you mention the impossibility of integrating this positive test into your health pass. A positive test effectively acts as a “certificate of recovery” and can replace proof of vaccination during its period of validity, namely between 11 and 180 days after the date of the sample.
Contacted by
Le Figaro
, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) tells us that “
a
Covid-19 infection
does not constitute a case of contraindication to vaccination.
There is in fact no danger, the risk of hyper-reactogenicity being very marginal.
Rather, the main thing lies in the fact that the vaccination has no direct benefit in this case because the person has already had an immune stimulation.
Thus, even if you have recently been infected with Covid-19, you are eligible for the booster dose which will extend the validity of your health pass.

An interoperable certificate in 60 countries
The DGS reminds us that 33 countries outside the 27 Member States of the European Union "
are currently part of an interoperability process in order to generate a certificate in DCC format
[Digital Covid Certificate, Ed]" (complete list on the European Commission website). Among them are Iceland, Israel, Switzerland, Thailand and Morocco. The QR code of the French health pass can therefore be read in these countries and, conversely, the local versions can be used in France. The United States is not part of this list, it is normal that your positive test cannot be used as a “certificate of recovery” in France and Europe.
Note that French people vaccinated in most countries outside the European Union with one of the vaccines recognized by the European Medicines Agency can convert their vaccination certificate to French and European standards.
The process is only done in pharmacies offering this service (list on the website of the Ministry of Health).
“
The vaccine equivalence certificate generation service can be invoiced for a price that cannot exceed €36
”, recall the French authorities.
