Locating the mask and using advanced technological means led to the arrest of the suspect in his 30s • The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office is today expected to file an indictment against him • This is how the case was solved

Decipherment after 13 years:

The Israeli police arrested a man in his 30s, a resident of the Jerusalem area, earlier this week on suspicion of committing serious sexual offenses and beating a tourist who was in Israel in 2009. His detention was extended in court, and an indictment will be filed today (Thursday).

The murder was solved with the help of a DNA sample from a face mask and with advanced technological means that led to its detection, even after years.

The first case in 2009, when a tourist in her 20s arrived at a hospital in Jerusalem, arrived with a bruise, after she was allegedly raped.

Police investigators arrived at the hospital and questioned the complainant. She said she was staying in the country as part of a seminar. She said that while walking around the city center, the suspect, who was a minor at the time, met her and led her to a dark public park. Immediately afterwards, the suspect fled the scene.

Following the incident, police opened an investigation in an attempt to trace the identity of the suspect in the act of rape and violence.

Police investigators collected findings and evidence and carried out a variety of investigative actions, but the many investigative efforts invested at the time did not bear fruit.

Recently, there has been a significant development in the investigation of the case, among other things, thanks to the findings and evidence collected in the suspect's face mask, the use of which is common during the corona period, as well as technological advances in forensic identification.

With the help of these measures, investigators from the Jerusalem District revealed the identity of the suspect in the act of rape and began carrying out covert investigative actions.

In the first phase, the police investigators located the victim of the crime living abroad and updated it on this. Police investigators arrested the suspect in the act for questioning. On Monday this week, the suspect was brought in for an extended detention and the court extended his detention by seven days.

Following the completion of the investigation in the Jerusalem District of the police and after an evidentiary basis has been formulated against the suspect in the act, the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office is expected to file an indictment against the suspect today.

The Jerusalem District Commander, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, commented on the decipherment of the case and said: With determination and sophistication to locate the criminals and prosecute them. "
