From February, visitors to the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich can dig deeper into their pockets.

Because the entrance fees are partly increased properly.

Book tickets online, face masks are compulsory outdoors – Tierpark fans have had to put up with a lot to visit Hellabrunn since the pandemic began. Now the restrictions are looser again - but the entrance fee is significantly increased.

The numbers have been circulating in the city administration for a long time, now it's official: Anyone who wants to visit the little elephant Otto* or the newly hatched calf* at Hellabrunn Zoo in the future will have to dig deeper into their pockets. The point in time has now also been set: February 1 will see price increases, some of which are substantial.

Adults will then pay 18 euros instead of 15, the large family day ticket (both parents plus children) will cost 39 instead of 33 euros.

The increase has a more drastic effect on the annual tickets: the price for the large family ticket increases from 98 to 118 euros.

Tierpark Hellabrunn increases ticket prices: "Indispensable for continued existence"

“The Hellabrunn Zoo also has to act responsibly and economically.

Rising costs for energy, feed supply and staff are forcing Hellabrunn to act with foresight in order to keep the zoo running,” explains director Rasem Baban.

"The corona pandemic* and the associated weeks of closure have also left their economic mark - so the price adjustment is unavoidable this year, but the increase is very moderate."

The last price adjustment for day admission was five years ago, according to the zoo, the annual ticket was even 19 years ago.

According to an earlier calculation by the city administration, the current price increases will bring around 2.28 million euros more into the coffers per year.

Only a few months ago, the city council also approved a cash injection of 5.6 million euros.

According to the zoo, a day in Hellabrunn costs 50,000 euros.

"This year's price adjustment is essential for continued existence," explains Mayor Verena Dietl (SPD), the chairwoman of the supervisory board.

Price increases in Munich's culture

Corona* not only makes life more expensive at the bakery or in the supermarket – keyword record inflation.

Since January 1st, Stadtwerke customers have been paying more for electricity and gas.

The city is also raising prices in the leisure sector, for example at the Oidn Wiesn (4 instead of 3 euros) and at the Kammerspiele.

It is a requirement of the city council to also make "price adjustments" in other companies, announced Jennifer Becker from the culture department on request.

"For example in the Lenbachhaus or with the Munich* Philharmonic Orchestra - but there, as with the Kammerspiele, it's more in the high-priced segment, so that viewers with a smaller budget can continue to pay for the visit." Borrowing in the city library will also be more expensive - for under 18-year-olds but stay free.

Price increase at Hellabrunn Zoo from February 1st

After all, if you hurry, you can still avoid the inflation in Hellabrunn.

According to the zoo, day and annual tickets are available at the on-site ticket offices until January 31 at the old price.

Until then, visitors can still buy vouchers for tickets online.

Dennis Späth from Tierpark: “But these can only be redeemed at the old price until January 31st.

Anyone who comes after that has to pay the remaining amount on top of the new tariff.”
