Foreign Minister Yair Lapid spoke on the phone today (Thursday) with his Turkish counterpart from the Chebushulu bloc.
This is the first public telephone conversation between an Israeli foreign minister and a Turkish foreign minister in 13 years.
The call comes amid attempts by Turkey in recent months to warm relations with Israel.
The person who initiated the conversation is the Turkish Foreign Minister.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry contacted the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem on Wednesday and said that the Turkish minister was interested in holding a "private conversation" with Lapid to wish him a speedy recovery from the coronavirus he contracted last week.

The last time a public telephone conversation took place between an Israeli foreign minister and a Turkish foreign minister was probably in 2008, when Tzipi Livni served in the post.
Following the Marmara events in 2010, then-Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman pursued an anti-Turkish policy and even opposed the reconciliation agreement with Turkey.
In June 2010, about a month after the events of the Turkish flotilla to Gaza, a secret meeting was held in Europe between the then Minister of Industry and Trade, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, and the then Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Debutoulou.
The meeting took place behind Lieberman's back with the knowledge and approval of the then Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The phone call took place today against the background of contacts and preparations for a possible visit by President Yitzhak Herzog to Ankara in the near future.
Erdogan revealed the contacts at a press conference earlier this week.
Senior Israeli officials noted that the Prime Minister's Office and the Foreign Ministry do not object to the meeting, and in recent days there have been discussions about the appropriate timing for such a trip.
