His 11-year-old son had shouted "Allah Akbar" during a tribute to Samuel Paty: a father tried in Valence for "death threats" on college staff

In October 2021, this 43-year-old man congratulated his son before insulting and threatening the educational staff of the establishment.


A 43-year-old man is on trial Thursday, January 20 in Valence (Drôme) for "death threats to people in charge of a public service mission" and "attacks on public property".

This security guard had threatened with death the staff of a college in Valence, where his son had received a warning after shouting “

Allah Akbar

” during a tribute to Samuel Paty in October 2021. He had been placed under judicial supervision awaiting his trial.

The facts date back to Friday, October 15, 2021. On that day, an 11-year-old boy, enrolled in 5th grade, shouted “

Allah Akbar

” during the minute of silence organized in the establishment in tribute to Samuel Paty.

The schoolboy had "

been brought to reflect on his behavior

" and had "

of himself offered to apologize to his teacher and his comrades

", indicated the rector of the Grenoble academy at the time.

Death threats made within the college

The teenager is nevertheless sentenced to a warning, and his father is notified by telephone.

During this call, he congratulates the behavior of his son then insults and threatens the direction of the college for the first time.

The following Monday, October 18, 2021, the father even entered the establishment and repeated his remarks "

even more strongly, going so far as to issue death threats

", according to the rectorate.

Placed in police custody the same day, this 43-year-old man had not disputed all the facts - in particular that he had verbally attacked the educational staff and that he had said he wanted to set fire to the establishment -, but had however minimized them by evoking his anger at the situation, detailed the prosecution in October.

Not known to the services in charge of monitoring radicalization or on file, he had explained "

being carried away by the sanction taken against his son

".

His psychiatric expertise had also revealed "

no psychiatric pathology or personality disorder despite impulsive potential

", indicated in October 2021 the Valencian prosecutor's office.

During a search of his home, investigators discovered a Bible, two Salafist books, a nunchaku

(a combat weapon, Ed)

, a saber, a cane-sword and 11,500 euros in cash.

The prosecution had at the time not retained the head of apology for terrorism.
