The primary school in Icking is to get a new gym.

The question is to what extent this construction measure will ultimately be funded.

As part of the mandatory all-day care, the municipality would like to build a new school gymnasium.

But the state is stingy with its funding.

Icking

– The municipality of Icking wants to build a new gymnasium on the site of the primary school – also because sport and exercise play an important role in the all-day school.

But it's not that simple.

As things stand at the moment, the small community is getting less funding from the state than expected.

Specifically, it's about 400,000 euros.

In the municipal council meeting on Monday evening, Mayor Verena Reithmann (UBI) spoke of a "silly prank" and announced that she did not want to give up on the matter.

"In this case, the consideration of urban development funding lags behind the demand for a full day," said Reithmann on the phone after the meeting.

The question is whether a "small field hall" is sufficient for the relatively small primary school, which currently has eight classes and will probably not have more. Larger gyms, the government of Upper Bavaria informed the head of the town hall, would only be funded from eleven primary school classes. That makes a significant difference: Icking would receive one million euros less in funding. A part of it, namely about 600,000 euros, could be recouped, funding amounts are also linked to the capacity of the respective community. Nevertheless, the 400,000 euros that the community might slip through the fingers of the community would have "considerable importance" for Icking, according to Reithmann.

The mayor informed the government that the Ickinger elementary school not only has eight classes, but is also an all-day school with currently nine groups.

Reithmann believes that this should be evaluated in a similar way to having eleven primary school classes.

An argument that the government has so far not wanted to follow.

According to the head of the town hall, it should be clear to everyone involved that the full day also includes sporting programs in addition to musical and creative activities.

The Institute for School Quality and Educational Research (ISB) has not said for nothing: "Especially when students spend more and more time at school, it becomes all the more important to keep incorporating moments of movement."

80 percent of the children in Icking are enrolled in the all-day school.

A small sports hall would have a size of 18 by 12 meters, a sports hall of 27 by 15 meters.

"The question should be clarified politically as to what status is actually attached to the sporting activities praised in the handout," explains the head of the town hall.

As a first step, she has now turned on the member of the state parliament, Martin Bachhuber (CSU), and informed the Bavarian municipal assembly.

At the same time, Verena Reithmann informed the municipal council that the air cleaning devices had now been set up or hung up in all rooms of the elementary school and could be put into operation.
