The annual report on antisemitic incidents, published by the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for the past year, reveals alarming findings, according to which more than ten antisemitic incidents occur around the world every day.
The report, which reached Israel Today and part of which was published this week, presents a grim picture and indicates, according to its authors, a record of many years in the number of antisemitic incidents in the world in the past year. Most of the incidents were vandalism and destruction (37%), graffiti and desecration of tombstones, and less so - propaganda (24%) and physical violence (13%).
The report also shows that there is a correlation between the existence of current events around the world since the calendar, and the increase in the number of antisemitic incidents. Opposition to vaccines has also led to an increase in the number of incidents, after demonstrations against Holocaust victims such as yellow badges were accompanied by demonstrations by anti-Semitic conspiracies dealing with Jews as spreaders of disease.
Hundreds of events in New York
For example, in New York in the US there was a 100% increase in the number of antisemitic incidents during 2021 compared to 2020: in 2021 (until December) there were 503 incidents, compared to 252 in 2020. In Los Angeles, according to official data Published by the police, there was an increase of about 60% in the first half of 2021. Compared to data in the corresponding period, in the UK there was an increase of 49%, and in Austria the number of incidents doubled.
There has also been a jump in the number of incidents in Canada and Australia.
In Germany the number of antisemitic incidents in the first ten months of 2021 was almost the same as in all of 2020, and the increase in incidents in the east of the country and in Berlin continues.
Compared to these countries, the downward trend in the number of antisemitic incidents in Russia has continued, according to reports from the local Jewish community, but these figures may be partial and inaccurate.
According to the report, about 50% of antisemitic incidents occurred in Europe, which was the leading continent in the number of incidents.
Racheli Bartz Ricks, head of the Department of Combating Anti-Semitism and Community Resilience at the World Zionist Organization, commented on the report's data: "Anti-Semitism is not a new term, but a renewable one.
Jewish communities around the world face the changing and rising challenges of anti-Semitism on a daily basis, and the resilience of Jews is measured by their resilience and resilience together as a community in the face of these challenges.
"Despite the difficult data, this year we have seen little light in the form of many countries that have adopted the IHRA definition of the fight against anti-Semitism, laws enacted worldwide to study Holocaust and prevent the use of Holocaust symbols, and of course war on BDS."
Bartz Rix added that "it is the duty of every state to provide its citizens with security and to protect them in every event that takes place on its land, including the Jewish community. At the same time, the State of Israel will continue to be an anchor for every Jew who wants it."
