Bad Wiessee – The listed foyer at the iodine and sulfur bath has been secured.

Bad Wiessee's Mayor Robert Kühn recently had this good news.

Under the agenda item "Information from the mayor", Robert Kühn announced good news at the most recent Wiesseer building committee meeting: The listed foyer seems to have been saved.

"Only 20 percent are still missing until the building is completely secured," explained the head of the town hall.

It was a long and tough road to get the foyer, the heart of the spa district in Bad Wiessee, preserved.

Those responsible at the Swiss Sports Medicine Excellence Group, or SME for short, had already promised to carry out the necessary measures.

Of course, this assurance was smiled at by some, Mayor Robert Kühn alluded to the history of the measures taken to preserve the foyer.

In 2019, the planned large-scale project by SME to build a hotel with a clinic area on the site of the former iodine-sulphur bath came to a standstill.

As part of the concept, the foyer should have initially housed gastronomy and an event room, later a spa area was under discussion.

After the construction stop on the large construction site in May 2019, the listed building was then exposed to the weather for two winters.

Initially, SME had made no effort at all to preserve the building, despite an official order. Even after the threat of coercive measures, corresponding measures only started slowly and repeatedly came to a standstill.

Now this tiresome story seems to have come to a happy end for the time being, reported Mayor Robert Kühn: The craftsmen are back at work and the provisional protection of the lobby against wind and weather is nearing completion.

"In this way, our lobby will get through the winter well," he said confidently.
