There are already three specialist practices at the Schongau hospital.

The way to the outpatient center would like to be pushed further in the future.

Schongau – Medical interventions are increasingly being carried out on an outpatient basis.

This development is desired by politicians, but also has advantages from the point of view of doctors and patients, as Claus Rauschmeier, deputy managing director of the hospital GmbH, explained in an interview with the local newspaper.

"The patient comes in the morning, is examined, treated and can go home the same day and recover in the familiar environment." In many cases, it is no longer necessary to be hospitalized for days.

Rauschmeier would therefore like to continue driving the path from the hospital to the outpatient center.

This includes an outpatient surgery center.

For example, the Peitingen ophthalmologist Dr.

Dimitrios Soultanopoulos went through his treatments and operations in the hospital on Friday.

The concept has proven itself.

networking among doctors

The specialist medical center is also part of the future strategy.

The Schongau Hospital currently has a practice for neurological spinal surgery, an orthopedic practice and, since October, a practice for visceral surgery and proctology by Dr.

Rolland Rosniatowski.

Rauschmeier explains that talks are currently being held with two other disciplines.

According to him, there would always be room for six disciplines.

"We will creatively design this process over the coming months and years and want to play a pioneering role in Bavaria," says Rauschmeier.

The networking of the doctors with each other and the physical proximity can ensure ideal care for patients (also on an outpatient basis).

For some complaints, the advice of different doctors must be obtained.

Instead of being referred from one to the other, other experts could quickly be brought in for examinations at the hospital's specialist center.

If, contrary to expectations, it becomes necessary after an operation, inpatient admission is also possible quickly.

New practice for visceral surgery and proctology at the Schongau Hospital

Doctor colleagues at the hospital are definitely interested in having their own practice, says Rosniatowski.

Some would already ask him about his experiences.

Rosniatowski has been a specialist in surgery since 2002 and a specialist in visceral surgery since 2004. After many years as senior physician and chief physician in Rhineland-Palatinate and as consultant physician at the University Hospital in Marburg, Rosniatowski has been senior physician at the clinic for general and visceral surgery in the hospital GmbH since 2017. At the time, he explicitly applied for Schongau because he likes the Oberland so much, he emphasizes. He therefore cannot understand the discussion that no staff will be found for the hospital location because of the distance to Munich.

With his practice, he has now “become self-employed” for a bit, but will continue to work in the hospital.

Rolland Rosniatowski specializes in the abdomen (reflux, gallbladder disorders, abdominal pain, stomach, colon and rectal cancer), hernias (groin, navel, scars and diaphragm) and proctology.

He also offers the care of chronic wounds.

He wants to help establish outpatient surgery and "short-term surgery" in Schongau.

Spatially separate the specialist center from the hospital

It is planned to physically separate the specialist center from the hospital in the future.

Rauschmeier assumes that it will be a good year before that happens.

Finally, before the necessary conversion can begin, the planning must be completed, permits obtained and orders placed.

A (still more distant) wish from the medical side: A pharmacy and a physiotherapist could also settle under the same roof for ideal cooperation, says Rosniatowski.

Everything is already available in Schongau – but distributed throughout the city.

With the new outpatient center and the specialist practice itself, the aim is to supplement the existing medical offer and not compete with established doctors, emphasize both Rauschmeier and Rosniatowski.
