Syria recovers 5 Palmyra artifacts at the initiative of the Nabu Museum in Lebanon

Beirut, SANA- Syria today recovered five archaeological artifacts stolen from Palmyra city during the terrorist organization (ISIS) control period.

Today, Syria has recovered five ancient artifacts stolen from Palmyra, during the terrorist organization (ISIS) control over it.

The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums received the artifacts at the initiative of the Nabu Museum in Lebanon, during a ceremony held at the National Museum in Beirut under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Culture, Judge Muhammad Wissam Al-Murtada, the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Dr. Ali Abdel Karim, and the founder and director of the Nabu Museum Jawad Adra, in the presence of representatives of The Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Syria, the Directorate of Lebanese Museums and a number of interested persons.

Minister Al-Murtada said in a speech during the handover, "These artifacts tell the story of the rise of human civilization from this blessed land since the dawn of history," stressing the close relations between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples, who represent one people in two sister countries.

Al-Murtada added, “Cooperation between Syria and Lebanon in this field is necessary because the Zionists who usurped the land of Palestine tried and are still trying to usurp our civilizational achievements and cultural heritage and plagiarize them for themselves as a way to support their baseless claims.

Al-Murtada stressed that what unites Lebanon with Syria is not only the common history, but also the present, which makes the future more peaceful and bright to the extent that cooperation between the two countries is rooted in the face of Israeli terrorism that wants to destroy our history and takfiri terrorism that wants to distort it.

In his turn, Ambassador Abdul Karim said in his speech that “such initiatives that show respect for ancient civilizational heritage, monuments and monuments paint the image of this region, especially the image of Syria and Lebanon, which embraced one of the most important human civilizations,” pointing out that the return of Palmyra artifacts proves that Syria is recovering After holding out for nearly eleven years.

Abdul Karim stressed that “Syria’s steadfastness defended the identity of man and the civilization that Syria embraces and its sacred soil,” praising the efforts of the Lebanese Ministry of Culture and the initiative of the owner of the initiative to return these stolen artifacts, the director of the Nabu Museum.

Abdul Karim added that "Syria has preserved a large percentage of its great antiquities and transferred them to the Damascus Museum and to museums that terrorism did not reach, but what it lost was great, especially the martyr Dr. Khaled Al-Asaad, who remained committed and loyal to the city of Palmyra until the last breath."

During the handover ceremony, several speeches were delivered, including by the owner of the initiative, Jawad Adra, on behalf of the Nabu Museum, and the Director of Museums in Syria, Dr. Muhammad Nazir Awad, who expressed Syria's deep appreciation for this initiative and those in charge of it.
