For the G7 summit, the Krün fire brigade is being revamped.

The municipality saves a lot of money thanks to six-figure financial injections.

Krün

– For the forthcoming G7 summit in Schloss Elmau, the Krün fire brigade will be properly upgraded.

Thanks to generous government funding, commander Anton Simon and his 80-strong crew can look forward to a new HLF 20 (rescue fire-fighting vehicle/price: around 550,000 euros) and a logistics equipment truck (up to 250,000 euros).

Thanks to the G7 bonus, 70 percent of the costs are covered.

No wonder, then, that the municipal council gratefully accepted the 750,000 euro gift in its meeting on Tuesday evening with 13 votes to 0.

Three quarters of a million is spent so quickly, we would have discussed a lawn mower longer.

Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger

Everything went so quickly that Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU) stated with a wink: "That's how quickly three quarters of a million was spent, we would have discussed a lawn mower longer." If everything goes according to plan - which can be assumed in peak times - the two new vehicles should have been delivered by the end of May at the latest.

This means that the Krün firefighters have six emergency vehicles at their disposal during the hot phase.

And that's a good thing, according to the mayor.

As at the first G7 summit in 2015, the volunteer fire brigade not only has to ensure safety for two weeks near the conference venue, but also in the main town and its hamlets, ten kilometers away.

"We are needed for the fire station, it was forced on us," the mayor explains.

So history repeats itself in the G7 host community.

So, seven years ago, the people of Krün were able to look forward to a new fire engine (LF 10) and a multi-purpose vehicle.

"Today is a holiday," commander Simon understandably rejoiced in November 2015, five months after the summit, at the blessing of the modern machines.

Now it's just the HLF 20 and the equipment trolley.

"A very useful addition," enthuses Schwarzenberger.

In normal times, there would have been a standard government subsidy of 125,000 euros for the HLF 20 and 35,000 euros for the logistics vehicle.

This time it's 375,000 or around 150,000 euros - more than three times as much.

When the G7 summit is over, the sizeable Krüner fleet dwindles from six to four vehicles.

The aging TLF 16/25 (purchased in 2001) is then to be sold for a high five-digit sum – as is a supply vehicle.

If the willingness to donate remains high among the citizens of Krün, the remaining costs for the HLF and the logistics vehicle will remain within manageable limits for the municipality and the fire brigade.

A real G7 coup, especially since the usual delivery times of up to two years crumble down to just a few months in this exceptional phase.

But there is also a lot of persuasion work with the relevant companies such as MAN, Iveco and Mercedes on this point.

In this context, the head of the town hall, Schwarzenberger, does not want to leave it unmentioned.

By the way: When it comes to the fire brigade, the G7 cornucopia is not only poured out over Krün.

According to reports, the comrades in Mittenwald, Wallgau, Ohlstadt and Farchant can also look forward to various summit trucks.
