New York-Sana

The United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Tor Wencesland, called for an end to the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories and not to displace Palestinians from their homes in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

"We call on the Israeli authorities to end the displacement of Palestinians and not to evacuate them from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and Silwan town in the occupied city of Jerusalem, in accordance with international law," Wencesland said in a statement he gave during the regular session of the UN Security Council held yesterday at the UN headquarters in New York. Judaizing occupation will exacerbate tension in the region.

In turn, four European countries called on the Israeli occupation to stop its settlement and Judaization plans in the occupied city of Jerusalem, stressing that these measures would hinder the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In a joint statement by France, Germany, Spain and Italy, these countries stressed that the Israeli settlements are a flagrant violation of international law (and stand in the way of achieving a just and comprehensive peace).
