That of the 20th Cinema Lights ceremony, prizes awarded by foreign press correspondents based in Paris.
This winter evening 2015, Gaspard Ulliel, his hair combed back and the dimple forward, received the prize for best actor for his interpretation of Yves Saint Laurent (in
Saint Laurent
by Bertrand Bonello).
He deserved this prize, as he should have won the César which, a fortnight later, will be awarded to Pierre Niney.
The latter had also donned the clothes of the great couturier that year.
An absurd competition had arisen between the two young actors.
It had no place for the good and simple reason that Ulliel was the only one to have found the breath, the soul and the ambiguity of the genius of Haute Couture.
His monstrosity, the one that gnawed at him, too.
So much so that we wondered...
