Tragic incident in Bavaria: Farmer falls into manure pit and drowns - detective investigates

A farmer in Breitasch (Bockhorn municipality) died tragically on Wednesday evening.

The elderly man drowned in his own pit.

- The engine of an old tractor with a coupled liquid manure tank ran for hours, its lights were on.

At some point the neighbors thought it was funny.

Around 10:30 p.m., they dialed the emergency call after there were indications that the man – who is said to be in his early 60s – could have fallen into the Odelgrube.

The Erding control center alerted the Kirchasch and Erding fire brigades, the district fire inspection, two ambulances, the emergency doctor and the rescue helicopter Christoph Munich and the Erding police.

The Kirchasch fire brigade was the first to arrive at the old, partly dilapidated farm.

Bad accident in the district of Erding: farmer drowns in the liquid manure pit

Not far from the edge of the pool, they discovered what may have been the man's headgear.

In the pit, not far below the surface, the emergency services came across the man's body.

He was already dead, possibly hours.

Presumably he wanted to pump liquid manure, lost his footing, fell into the pit, could not free himself and drowned.

The fire brigade recovered the body, the helicopter and the water rescue service were canceled again.

Around 11 p.m., the permanent criminal investigation service (KDD) from the Kripo Erding arrived, who took over the investigation with three officers.

So far everything looks like a tragic accident.
