Specialists are now proverbially getting to the bottom of the rumor that World War II paraphernalia was sunk in the Grafinger Melak pond.

Local residents have already been informed.

Grafing – In the coming week there will be dredging in the Melak pond in Grafing.

Particular attention should be paid to ordnance from the Second World War.

According to Mayor Christian Bauer, a preliminary investigation by a special company had revealed finds.

"As far as we know, however, it is not dangerous." This was also communicated to the residents.

"Maybe it's cartridges," the mayor speculates.

The pond should be dredged to get more volume.

Flood protection also plays a role.

Because there have been rumors for years that something had been sunk in the pond during World War II, the city commissioned an inspection.

Excavator with "sieve bucket" as a shovel to examine the pond

According to the municipal regulatory office, the special company examined the pond with a small rowing boat and detectors. The environment, including the adjacent meadow, was also included. Indications of larger amounts of mostly smaller metal parts were found in the water at different depths in two places. Where the devices would have struck, was examined more closely. According to the specialists, it could also be explosive ordnance. This was also indicated by reports from contemporary witnesses. It should not be about larger objects such as an aerial bomb.

The use of an excavator from a local company is now planned.

A “sieve spoon” is to be used as a shovel.

The pond will not be drained.

The professionals of the special company should be present at this appointment, also to be able to intervene if material has to be blasted on site.

In this case, measures would be taken to protect local residents.
