Herrsching/Krailling/Gauting – Since last week it has also applied to children in childcare facilities: the obligation to do a quick corona test before entering.

Kindergartens in the district of Starnberg do well with this, according to a survey by the Starnberg District Bot.

But there are also suggestions.

Since January 10, kindergarten children have had to take a quick test three times a week before visiting their daycare center.

How effective testing is for children was shown right from the start in the Kunterbunt kindergarten in Herrsching.

There, parents had also tested their child at the weekend and then not sent it to the facility because of a positive result on Monday to avoid infection.

However, because the child had been in contact with the playmates in the kindergarten a few days earlier, the facility reacted immediately and also sent all the other children in the group to quarantine on Monday, as kindergarten director Kristina Wunder explains.

Five days after the last contact with an infected child, they were allowed to return to the facility with a negative PCR test.

In Herrsching, children bring test cassettes with them to the day care center

According to Kristina Wunder, what kind of tests the parents use with their children is not mandatory, only that the (negative) result is confirmed by the parents when entering the facility on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as stipulated by the government.

"It works wonderfully," she says.

In the three-group facility, all parents and 55 children who are at least three years old there do well, confirms the director.

The girls and boys are happy to show their “tickets” in the morning.

This means the cassettes from the test sets that show the result.

The children then dispose of them in a rubbish bin.

"The children would even prefer to be tested every day," says Kristina Wunden Elan of her protégés.

The staff tests themselves daily, she explains, who has been vaccinated and boosted herself.

Wearing FFP2 masks during ongoing operations is an additional protective measure.

In Krailling, parents provide written evidence of the test result

Calm has also returned to the Caritas children's home in Krailling after the initial excitement about compulsory testing for kindergarten children.

“The parents are now totally reliable in bringing the slips with them,” confirms facility manager Caroline Gröbel.

Because unlike in the Herrschinger kindergarten, the parents there do not confirm the negative result with the test cassettes, but fill out evidence after the tests with their children, which provide information about the test results of their children.

At first there were still questions, such as when the test had to be carried out.

Because the result is valid for 24 hours, some parents would now take the tests in the evening and not in the hectic hours of the morning.

There has also been a positive case in Krailling since the test became mandatory.

However, because the child concerned was not in the facility on the day of the test and the weekend in between, this had no effect on the day-care center.

Caroline Gröbel thinks that introducing the tests at a time when the number of people infected with corona is increasing is “quite sensible”.

In this way, cases would be fished out that would otherwise not be discovered.

The tests also lead to a more relaxed approach to the children on the part of the staff, the head of the facility notes.

Parents confirmed to her that the children are now also dealing with the situation in a relaxed manner.

There are suggestions for a pool test from Gauting

The same can be heard from the director Ilse Hoffmann-Klee at the Lebenshilfe children's home in Gauting.

After initial concerns, such as whether there were enough tests in the pharmacies, the evening test would have brought "relief" for many.

The test is "easily feasible" due to the reliability of the parents.

Nevertheless, she suggests introducing pool tests in kindergartens, analogously to schools.

Unlike the current principle, which is based “on loyalty and faith”, a pool test ensures 100 percent that every child present is recorded.

Issuing the ration coupons for the rapid corona tests is time-consuming

Ilse Hoffmann-Klee would like some relief with regard to the administrative burden.

Because currently the issuing of the coupons for the free tests has to be organized by the childcare facilities.
