Three Canadian tourists were injured during "an argument between hotel guests," authorities said. One of them died in a hospital shortly after.

One person died and two others were injured during a shooting this Friday afternoon at the Xcaret Hotel, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, local authorities reported.

The three victims are Canadian citizens who were staying at the hotel, which is located next to the theme park of that name, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

The Secretary of Public Security of Quintana Roo, Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez, indicated through Twitter that

one of the guests opened fire inside the hotel after an altercation

and then fled.
