The renovation of the city center of Freising should not be completed until 2028.

Among other things, the Korbinian anniversary festival messes up the schedule.

Freising

– By the end of 2022, the work on Obere Hauptstrasse and the Moosach opening should be completed, the heart of the inner city redesign should be finished.

The work is on schedule.

But the conversion is far from finished.

A new framework schedule, as presented to the planning committee of the city of Freising by downtown coordinator Michael Schulze on Wednesday, does not provide for the end of all work until 2028.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

So it was an "update" of the framework schedule that Schulze presented.

According to Schulze, there are a number of reasons for these changes, which are pushing the entire inner city redevelopment project back by a few years: Above all, there is the anniversary year 2024, in which the 1300th anniversary of the arrival of Saint Corbinian in Freising is celebrated.

The state exhibition for this should take place in Freising and attract numerous visitors to the cathedral city.

The result: In this year 2024, the main street and Marienplatz should be free of major construction activities and construction site facilities in order to carry out the festivities and to improve the public image of the city.

Asam renovation should be completed by autumn 2023

In other words: Large partial construction projects cannot be tackled in 2024. Therefore, according to Schulze, the planned (but not yet finally decided) construction of the mixed water retention basin on - more precisely: under - Marienplatz will only start in 2025. A construction period of two years is expected. Only then can the surfaces of Marienplatz and the western part of Untere Hauptstraße and the Amtsgerichtsgasse be produced. A construction period of two years – i.e. 2027 and 2028 – should also be planned for this.

The year 2024 is also important because the general renovation of the Asam building should be completed by autumn 2023.

In order to be prepared for 2024, not only should the surfaces on Obere Hauptstraße between Schiedereck and Marienplatz be produced in 2023, but also the area on the north side of the Asam building and in Brennergasse.

The extension of the heating network in Bahnhofstrasse to the south is also planned for 2023.

This is important because the ordinariate is currently planning barrier-free access from Bahnhofstraße to the Domberg, i.e. wants to build an elevator to the Mons doctus by the 2024 state exhibition.

Retention basin as a "huge construction site"

The proposal for a resolution was then coordinated with all of this: The administration should organize all upcoming construction measures in such a way that the main street and Marienplatz will be kept free of major construction measures in 2024.

The planning committee voted unanimously in favor of this approach.

However, Manfred Drobny (Greens) noted that he had difficulty agreeing to the retention basin under Marienplatz - because of the enormous costs and the "huge construction site" that this meant.

Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher assured Drobny, however, that the approval of the framework schedule in no way meant a project decision for the rainwater retention basin in the heart of the city.
