USER'S RIGHT - For several years, cars without a license (VSP) have been popular with young minors. What is the legal framework for conducting a VSP?

Last year, sales of cars without a license (VSP) continued to grow (+73%).It is possible to drive a VSP from the age of 14. The vehicle must be a two-seater model, whose empty weight is limited by regulations (350 kg), and whose speed is less than 45 km/h (6 kW motor, i.e. 8.1 horsepower).

To drive, users born after January 1, 1988 must, in addition to the age condition, hold a category AM driving license (formerly BSR).

For all persons born before January 1, 1988, driving a VSP is subject to no particular formalities, whether or not they hold a driving licence.

These vehicles are prohibited from driving on the following roads: motorways, expressways and expressways, ring roads.

Anyone whose driving license is suspended or invalidated can drive a VSP since the AM category is not impacted by the measure taken.

Be aware, however, that in the event of a criminal conviction, the judge may prohibit you from driving any motor vehicle including a VSP.

Finally, with or without a license, there can be no withdrawal of points for offenses committed with a VSP, as with all vehicles for which a driving license is not required.
