French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Berlin on Tuesday January 25 for an interview with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on topics related to the French presidency of the European Union, the chancellery announced on Friday January 21.

This is the first visit by the French head of state to his German neighbor since Olaf Scholz took office at the beginning of December, successor to Angela Merkel who had remained in power for 16 years.
On December 10, the Social Democratic Chancellor made his first trip abroad, respecting a long post-war tradition, by going to Paris.
The two leaders had on this occasion displayed their “

Since January 1, France, taking over from Slovenia, has chaired the Council of the European Union for six months, which represents the interests of the 27 Member States vis-à-vis the European Commission and Parliament.
Germany, for its part, has assumed the presidency of the G7 since the beginning of the year, succeeding the United Kingdom.
It will host from June 26 to 28 at Elmau Castle in the Bavarian Alps, the next summit of G7 leaders.
