The Greens will soon have a new leader.

The remaining days could still be hairy for bosses Baerbock and Habeck.

The Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating the initial suspicion of infidelity against the entire federal executive committee of the party.

Bad headlines.

Especially since some may only have followed the appointment of Robert Habeck, head of the Greens, in Bavaria with Markus Söder because he wanted to know how Habeck reacted to the allegations.

He did respond to two journalists' questions, but not particularly extensively.

With sentences like: “The corona bonuses have long since been repaid” and: “Otherwise the public prosecutor will now investigate and clarify it again.

And then, I think, the chapter will finally be closed," Habeck tried to quickly get over the subject.

Habeck may have thought to put the lights back on climate protection – the reason why he had actually traveled to Munich.

But it's not that easy for the Greens at the moment.

Investigations against the Greens Federal Executive: Effects on the party congress?

Because the investigation against the entire federal executive board affects some big names. Habeck is trying to make progress with his climate plans, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is looking for a solution to the Ukraine conflict on the international stage, and Ricarda Lang wants to become the new Green party leader.

The next Green party conference is to take place at the end of next week, on January 28th and 29th.

He could be exciting.

Because then the successors of Baerbock and Habeck should be elected.

You became a minister in the federal government.

In addition to Lang, Omid Nouripour also wants to step into the front row of the party.

After the result in the federal election, which was not as hoped for by the party, the newcomers, like the designated CDU leader Friedrich Merz, will have a lot to do in the party.

Nouripour has already announced that it wants to deal with the past election campaign.

"The entire party wants to work through the election campaign," said Nouripour of the German Press Agency in Berlin.

“This has also been discussed very closely with the outgoing party leadership.

They would have done it too if they had had just a minute to do it after the election.”

With their first candidate for Chancellor named Annalena Baerbock, the Greens fell well short of their own claims.

Personal and strategic mistakes dominated the election campaign for a long time: additional income reported belatedly to the Bundestag, prettied CVs, a book with a striking number of text similarities to other works.

"I'm the Secretary of State's fan club chairman, so I'm happy with the appointment," Nouripour said of Baerbock's ministry. When dealing with the campaign, he explained: "It's not about assigning blame, but looking ahead so that we learn the lessons from the election campaign." The structures of the Greens are still geared towards 45,000 members - but now there are 125,000. “We will check whether we don't have to position ourselves differently in the future, including in election campaigns. This also applies to the structures in the federal office.” Regarding the question of whether the results of this review should also be made public, Nouripour said: “Of course, changes should also be perceived externally.”

For the scheduled next federal election campaign in 2025, Nouripour issued the slogan: "The goal is to become the leading force of the center left again and to be able to play a part in the chancellor question again."
