Damascus-SANA

In Qudsaya Electricity Emergency Department, citizens’ calls to report malfunctions did not stop for two days, a condition that workers in many switches are accustomed to during the occurrence of weather depressions, as the worker Maher Al-Aas mentioned.

The emergency worker, Maher, explained to the SANA delegate that in this atmosphere, the workload increases dramatically, as the large loads and excessive urgency lead to the disconnection of many outlets from the network, and consequently their out of service, which applies to all emergency departments in cold areas such as Qudsia.

Maher Al-Aas indicated that he and his colleagues are forced to spend long hours working in neighborhoods and roads in order to repair faults despite the cold weather, noting that after receiving any complaint from citizens, they go to the place to discover the faults and work on fixing it and recharging the homes.

The head of the Qudsaya Emergency Office, Adnan Al-Haji, explained that the workers have been in continuous movement since the night before yesterday, as they were able to fix some faults and recharge a number of neighborhoods, and work is continuing to repair the rest, including the suburb exit No. 1. Barada, Al-Dimas, Yafour and Al-Saboura, according to the director of the Qudsaya Electricity Department, Engineer Hossam Muhammad Khair Omar.

Eng. Omar indicated that there are about 85 intermediate exits belonging to the department, some of which have been disconnected from the service as a result of the prevailing weather conditions, and the number of subscribers in it reaches 95,000, and emergency workers seek to secure services for them within the available capabilities.

Engineer Omar stated that the most difficult maintenance work is the repair of ground faults, as it requires a longer time and a special car to inspect them, pointing out that in severe weather conditions, faults increase on medium and low tension lines as a result of drawing large amounts of energy.

Regarding the safety of workers, Bassem Hassan, head of the Technical Office of Qudsaya Electricity, said: “We have work rules and safety procedures that must be carried out before going anywhere in order to ensure the safety of emergency workers, the most important of which is (booking from the station), which is meant to cut off the power supply so that they can work safely.
