2G continues to apply here.

2G will be canceled in retail.

A court had previously decided this.

Söder is also disappointed with the neutral behavior of the traffic light government and the Federal Chancellor in relation to general vaccination.

"We have no political leadership." Söder is also worried about the introduction of occupational vaccination.

Many nursing staff could quit.

Both vaccination obligations should be placed on one appointment.

Update from January 21, 12:42 p.m .: Here

we go. Söder speaks of clear political leadership. "There is no reason to panic," says Söder about the increased number of infections. However, Omikron has not yet had an effect on the hospital numbers. "Delta management cannot be taken over like this," says Söder. "We want caution, but with a sense of proportion." All measures and decisions must now be well justified in the changed situation. "We want to take it with us and reconcile," the CSU leader continued. It was not appropriate to tighten before the MPK. Söder announces that the culture will remain with 2G-Plus, but the capacities will be increased to 50 percent.

State chief Söder did not miss an opportunity in advance to present the new corona policy direction of the government and the CSU.

And this Friday, Söder will probably come back to the orientation of the Bavarian corona policy.

A meeting of the CSU executive board will take place in Munich in the morning.

At around 12 noon, the CSU leader himself and Secretary General Markus Blume will hold a press conference.

Markus Söder presents a new direction in corona politics at "Maybrit Illner".

Update from January 21, 10:11 a.m .:

Markus Söder was a guest on the ZDF political show “Maybrit Illner” on Thursday evening. In his introductory video, the CSU politician was introduced as a tree change you. In the past two years of the corona pandemic, the Bavarian Prime Minister has always jumped back and forth between "Team Caution" and "Team Relaxation". These changes are said to have been politically motivated. For example, to capture votes by relaxing before the federal election.

However, Söder vehemently contradicted this.

He has always pursued "prudent and clever management".

He always followed the opinions of experts.

Now Söder wants to change camp again.

This time from “Team Caution” to “Team Awareness”.

Omikron would have changed the corona situation again.

Interventions in freedom must now be justified and one must check whether some measures are still effective, said the CSU leader.

"We cannot react to Omikron with closures alone."

Söder on "Maybrit Illner": The CSU boss is said to have switched to "campaign mode".

The head of state was countered by the Spiegel author Anna Clauss.

She called Söder a "political chameleon".

He always had political reasons for his changes of direction.

And even now that his poll numbers in Bavaria* are falling and a state election in 2023 is pending, he would switch to “campaign mode”.

At first, Söder only reacted with an energetic shake of the head.

Then his answer follows.

"Every prediction has proven to be difficult." As a politician, you always have to react to the situation at hand and not "stubbornly pull your boots through".

Omikron would have reshuffled the cards.

"You shouldn't close on suspicion, you have to react with a sense of proportion," propagated the CSU boss again.

So will there soon be easing in Bavaria, even though the incidences are going through the roof?

Corona numbers in Bavaria have reached a new high

Update from January 21, 6.45 a.m .:

After the incidence in Bavaria had already reached a new high on Thursday with a value of 661.2 new infections within seven days and 100,000 inhabitants, it jumped again overnight by almost 100 and is now now at 755. This means that the Free State is above the national average, but in an overall comparison of all federal states it is "only" roughly in the middle.

In addition to the three from the previous day, five other counties and three cities have now exceeded the incidence value of 1000.

The district of Dachau still has the highest incidence (1288.1), followed by Ebersberg (1178.4) and the district of Munich (1153).

The district of Erding (1135.4), the city of Munich (1122.4) and the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen (1097.4), Freising (1088.7), Lindau (1062.1) and Landsberg are also over 1000 am Lech (1027.9) and the cities of Ingolstadt (1023) and Schweinfurt (1005.6).

The 35 to 59 age group currently accounts for the majority of infections, followed by the 15 to 34 year olds.

The number of deaths has not increased exponentially since the onset of the violent omicron wave.

In the past 24 hours, 30 people have died from or with a corona infection.

Corona in Bavaria: the city of Nuremberg can no longer adequately document deaths

Update from January 20, 5:02 p.m .:

The registry office in Nuremberg* can no longer keep up with the processing of the deaths. This is also due to the excess mortality from Corona. On Thursday, a spokesman for the city said: "Due to staff shortages during the corona pandemic, it is currently taking longer in the Nuremberg registry office for death and birth certificates to be issued or for church exits to be processed. There is also excess mortality in Nuremberg, which in combination with the failures led to the situation.

The area of deaths is particularly affected.

The team is strengthened through internal redistributions, and deaths are given priority.

Nevertheless, there may be delays before certificates are issued.

"But the burial itself can take place as planned, so there are no delays here," emphasized the city spokesman.

According to this, 6782 people died in the city in 2019 and 6953 people died in 2020.

This does not mean Nuremberg citizens, but deaths in the city area.

In 2021 there were 7093 - there are also late registrations that will be received in the course of January.

"But according to the previous figures, the number of deaths in 2021 will be higher than in the years 2017 to 2020," it said.

Aid organizations call for corona vaccination

Update from January 20, 2.40 p.m .:

The Bavarian aid organizations have called on the population to have a corona vaccination with a joint appeal.

"Vaccinations have proven to be the best possible protection against a severe course of the disease," said the chairman of the working group on civil protection, Leonhard Stärk.

"More than ever, it is important to convince those who are undecided to get vaccinated, to get those who have been vaccinated twice to get a booster dose and to avert a quarantine-related paralysis of public life," says Stärk, who is also the state manager of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK).

Those who do not get vaccinated contribute to “the light at the end of the tunnel getting darker”.

In addition to the BRK, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, the Malteser-Hilfsdienst, the police, the state fire brigade association and the technical relief organization participated in the vaccination call.

Study shows: Children have not yet been the drivers of the corona pandemic

Update from January 20, 1:23 p.m .: Daycare

centers, crèches and schools were closed: For parents, the first year of the corona pandemic was a crucial test. Bavarian researchers have examined the infection process in a large study - and come to the conclusion that children were not "virus spinners" in the first year. The number of cases in crèches, daycare centers and schools had correlated with the incidences in the general population, the scientists reported on Thursday at the presentation of the Bavaria-wide study "Covid Kids Bavaria".

There is no evidence that children were "virus spinners", said the director of paediatrics in the Hauner Children's Hospital at the LMU Klinikum Munich, Christoph Klein, as one of the study leaders.

However, the data cannot be transferred one-to-one to the current situation with Omikron, Klein continued.

Nevertheless, from the point of view of the scientists, the strategy of keeping schools and childcare facilities as open as possible does not currently have to be changed.

"With the appropriate measures, school lessons are possible and safe even in times of the pandemic," said the deputy director of paediatrics in the Hauner Children's Hospital and other study leaders, Johannes Hübner.

For Omikron, experiences from England and South Africa, for example, show that children are no more affected than adults.

Study: Children have not been drivers of the corona pandemic so far

About the study: Around 150 institutions were involved.

In three survey periods in October 2020, in November and December 2020 and in March 2021, a total of around 7060 samples from around 2570 children and almost 1290 adults were tested with PCR tests.

In 13 cases the result was positive.

That was comparable to the number of cases in the general population.

There have been no major outbreaks.

The results were checked with a blood sample (test for antibodies).

Scientific data like this is also an important basis for the state government's decision-making, said Science Minister Bernd Sibler (CSU).

The pandemic repeatedly requires rethinking and adapting the measures.

"The pandemic is an enormous challenge for our children," said the minister, among other things, with a view to limited social contacts and the closure of schools and facilities.

There are also consequences for children's mental health, Klein said.

However, data on the psychological and social effects of the pandemic are still being evaluated.

Incidence in three counties over 1000 again for the first time - the next industry is raging because of Corona rules

Update from January 20, 11:01 a.m .:

Due to the sharp drop in visitor numbers, the museums in Bavaria are demanding a relaxation of the strict access rules. The museums were badly affected by the introduction of the 2G-plus rules, the working group of museums in Bavaria criticized in an open letter on Thursday. There is talk of a “dramatic decline” in visitors in all houses. Many museums in the Free State are therefore reaching the limits of their ability to act. "Our cultural offer, like that of the theaters and that of all other cultural institutions, is a cornerstone of our cultural self-image," the letter says.

While a special path was taken for gastronomy with the 2G rule, a quasi-lockdown was still ordered for the museums.

In many houses, the paradoxical situation arises that 2G prevails in the museum café, while 2G-plus is required at the museum door.

In the letter, the representatives of the Bavarian museums call for “an end to unequal treatment”.

The Bavarian museums always acted very responsibly and prudently in every phase of the corona waves.

Corona incidence in Bavaria at a record high

Update from January 20, 7:53 a.m .:

In Bavaria, the incidence is higher than ever before.

With a value of 661.2 new infections within seven days and 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday morning, it left the old high from the delta wave behind.

On November 26, the incidence was 652.5.

The number of deaths reported in Bavaria since the beginning of the pandemic in connection with Corona has increased by 22 to 20,236.

So far, the new wave has not had a particularly strong impact on Bavaria's intensive care units.

According to the Divi intensive care register, 369 Covid 19 cases were being treated there in the morning (as of 7.05 a.m.), which is just over a third of the maximum value from the delta wave.

However, there is typically a time lag between infection and intensive care.

Corona incidence in Bavaria continues to rise steeply: three districts are over 1000 again for the first time

First report from January 20, 6:52 a.m .: Munich –

The seven-day incidence* in Bavaria continues to shoot up.

The Robert Koch Institute reported a value of 661.2 for Bavaria on Thursday (as of 3:27 a.m.).

On Wednesday, the incidence was still 607.1.

Bavaria thus exceeds the national average of 638.8 even more than before.

Corona incidence in Bavaria is increasing: Munich is no longer a hotspot

The state capital Munich*, Bavaria's number one corona hotspot in the past few days, is now "only" fourth in Bavaria with an incidence of 986.4.

In return, three districts in Upper Bavaria exceeded the 1000 mark for the first time.

At the top is the district of Dachau with 1076, followed by the districts of Ebersberg (1032.7) and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen (1015.5).

Since the hotspot rule, which provided for a regional lockdown in Bavaria from an incidence of 1000, was overridden last week, the measures to contain the pandemic in these districts have not changed.

The day before, the administrative court had also overridden the 2G rule in Bavaria's retail trade.

Despite the increasing numbers, the cabinet around Prime Minister Markus Söder had promised further easing in the coming weeks.
