In response to the increasing trend of wild boar wounding cases, the AFCD announced in November last year that the wild boars that roamed the urban areas would be regularly captured and humanely destroyed. Last night, some members of the public witnessed AFCD officers catching wild boars on the hillside opposite Tsui Lam Village, Tseung Kwan O. .
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department replied today (21st) that a total of 49 wild boars have been captured and handled humanely since the implementation of the scheme.
An AFCD spokesman pointed out that since November 12 last year, the department has carried out 8 wild boar capture operations, during which a total of 22 wild boars were captured and handled humanely.
During the same period, the department also received 14 cases of wild boar infestation referred by the police or other channels. Considering the danger to the public of wild boars in urban areas or near residential buildings, the department took action to capture and humanely deal with a total of 27 wild boars.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will continue to carry out wild boar capture operations, giving priority to locations where there are multiple wild boars, where wild boar wounds have occurred, or where wild boars may pose a danger to the public.
