In February 2021, a pensioner in Eberfing strangled his wife (66).

The 67-year-old confessed at the start of the trial before the Munich II Regional Court.

And described the difficult marriage.

– It was a family tragedy.

This is how defender Christina Keil described the events of the previous year on Friday morning.

The jury had laboriously researched the reason for the terrible act.

Not that the defendant disputed it, but when asked why, he wobbled terribly.

During his first interrogation after the crime, he said to the police: "I don't want to take it anymore, I can't take it.

I'll kill her now." And the fact that he put a blue miller's sack over her head after choking and tied it up was justified at the time with the words: "I wanted to make sure that she was dead."

Murder in Eberfing: They had a weekend marriage until they retired

A year has passed since then. The social and warehouse worker from Dresden has since had plenty of time to reflect on the crime while in custody. In court, he drew the time before February 5, 2021 softer than it actually was. The couple fought constantly. The couple was actually constantly looking for an apartment. Sometimes they only stayed a day in a new abode. Nowhere did they like it. It was too loud for them everywhere. They only felt comfortable in their detached holiday home in the Marches in Italy.

But because of the better medical care, the couple had also been living in Bavaria for many years.

His wife, a teacher, had last worked at the violin making school in Mittenwald and at the business school in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Both had a weekend marriage.

They have been living together again since retirement.

"We were able to complement each other well," the 67-year-old described the marriage apart from the disputes.

She was quick-tempered, he was calm.

He hadn't noticed that he had a heart condition and needed four stents until a routine check-up.

Until that night.

Once again, the two had prematurely terminated a rental agreement with a lot of trouble.

A new home had not yet been found.

He was plagued by worries and frustration at having to move again.

That night he didn't sleep a wink. "I felt a heavy heartbeat and had problems for the first time," he recalled. Tinnitus and circulatory disorders made themselves felt. "Everything came up in me again," he said. The next morning he wanted to talk to her about the arguments and his health problems. But the 67-year-old snapped at him, telling him to leave her alone.

Her shrill voice drove him crazy.

Kneeling by her bed, he grabbed her neck and squeezed until it cracked.

Only then, according to his own statements, did he regain his senses.

Then he lay down in a tub and slit his wrists – unsuccessfully.

He pulled a pillowcase over his head - unsuccessfully.

Then he rammed a knife into his stomach several times and seriously injured himself.

Realizing he couldn't kill himself, he dialed 110 and was glad when the police arrived.

The process is ongoing.
