Russia today warned the United States of the serious consequences of continuing to ignore Russian security concerns.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, during their meeting in Geneva that Washington's continued ignoring of Russian concerns would have the most serious consequences.
The Foreign Ministry said that Lavrov and Blinken exchanged in detail on issues of granting legal guarantees for Russia's security, and discussed the pivotal provisions of the two draft international legal agreements that were previously delivered to the United States and other NATO member states.
"Blinken was clearly informed that the continued disregard of the legitimate concerns of the Russian Federation, primarily related to the continued military presence of the United States and its allies on the territory of Ukraine, against the background of the large-scale deployment of forces and means of the Alliance near its borders, will lead to the most serious consequences."
The Foreign Ministry indicated that Lavrov informed Blinken during the meeting of the necessity of strict adherence to the pivotal principle of the indivisibility of security defined in a number of multilateral documents, foremost of which is the European Security Charter signed in Istanbul in 1999, indicating that risks can be avoided if Washington responds positively to the two draft agreements. Which is expected to receive a written response from the American side next week.
The statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that relations with the United States are in an unsatisfactory state, and it was agreed to intensify work at the expert level in order to normalize the work of the diplomatic missions of the two countries and to stabilize the visa system, calling for the resumption of a full diplomatic presence on a mutual basis and the return of Russian diplomatic property confiscated by the authorities.
