Rottach-Egern – Affordable living space is scarce on Lake Tegernsee, and the dream of owning your own home usually remains unfulfilled.

The municipality of Rottach-Egern wants to change that in Haslau.

There is a lack of affordable housing for locals - generally in the district of Miesbach and especially at Tegernsee.

The municipality of Rottach-Egern now wants to start a local program in the district of Haslau.

The municipality owns a plot of land measuring around 5,400 square meters there. There are currently two community halls on the site as well as covered parking spaces for vehicles, Mayor Christian Köck recently explained to the municipal council. In a previous meeting, members discussed a locals program. The current tenants would then have to be accommodated again, which is why a building with rental apartments should definitely be erected.

Initially, two single-family houses, three semi-detached houses and two multi-family houses with four or five apartments are planned. "The process is still ongoing," the mayor explained the first idea. "So it doesn't make sense if you register now to find out more or even to be pre-registered." The plan is for the application phase for the locals program to begin in the second half of 2023.

The municipal councilors Andreas Erlacher and Gabriele Schultes-Jaskolla (both FWG) spoke out against the project. "I consider the concept to be the second-best solution at most," said the third mayor at the meeting. More affordable living space at a moderate price per square meter is still needed. In her opinion, the property in Haslau would be ideal for creating rental apartments, which would also be subsidized by the state and could be built in the near future. When it comes to making a trade-off between renting and owning, she would give priority to the former.

"Of course we respect your decision," said the mayor.

"But you can also look at the topic from two sides." Christian Köck agreed with her that there is a need for affordable housing and that you can make many people happy at once.

However, he finds again and again that property is also important to people.

There are also other plots of land in the community that could be developed accordingly in the future.
