The Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma Leonid Slutsky stressed that the recent memorandum of sanctions against Russia submitted to the US Congress aims to distract attention from internal problems in the United States and score political points.

“I always wonder whether the authors of such initiatives realize the consequences of them and the extent to which members of Congress know the Russian-American agenda,” TASS news agency quoted Slutsky as saying via the Telegram application, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin warned during his conversation with his US counterpart, Joe Biden, at the end of the month. The past of the possibility of a complete severance of relations between the two countries in the event of imposition of sanctions.

And Slutsky added that this action may be part of a general plan to stir up hysteria against Russia and weaken the security guarantees talks, adding that “in order to divert attention from internal problems and score political points, the image of the external enemy is used with increasing intensity in the United States... However, this is not for him.” It has absolutely no effect on the real situation.”

Slutsky said that "the US policy in the Middle East is what first created the "ISIS" and then the "Al-Nusra Front" terrorists in Syria, and certainly it is not Russia that sponsors international terrorism, but let's not point the finger of accusations."

Members of the Republican Party in the US Congress had proposed a draft resolution declaring Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism" and the armed forces in Donbass "foreign terrorist organizations."
