The SPD sees itself on the upswing after the federal elections.

Also in the district of Freising, as district chairman Andreas Mehltretter (Member of the Bundestag) said at the annual press conference.

Freising

– Andreas Mehltretter was optimistic at the meeting: “The SPD is also doing well in the district.” In 2022, it will be ensured that social issues remain on the agenda, but the energy transition and transport will also be taken care of, for example.

SPD representatives explained in detail what that should look like.

Housing Ltd

District Councilor Sebastian Thaler took on the subject of Wohnungsbau GmbH: One is very happy that the topic has been taken up and that the GmbH has a future and is being reorganized.

Traffic

And then we went to the topic of traffic: When it comes to setting up 30 km/h zones in towns, there was a wide gap between political will and reality.

Thaler's appeal to local politics: You have to trust yourself more, there is more leeway in the law than you might think.

In addition, of course, one relies on the traffic light coalition in Berlin, which will give the municipalities more rights.

U6 extension

The eyes of the new government in Berlin are also directed towards the district of Freising because of the U 6 extension from Garching.

Thaler and the comrades are hoping for new specifications for the standardized procedure for creating a benefit-cost analysis, which will result in a factor for the project that will allow federal subsidies.

The project itself is of course still a dream of the future: "Ten years plus" - that's how Thaler estimates it.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

hospital concept

His district council colleague Herbert Bengler brought "positive news" to the hospital with him to the press conference: The modernization and realignment of the hospital is progressing, with the new buildings as part of the master plan they will probably start in 2023.

And: A rich district like Freising has to afford a well-established clinic - this is Bengler's conviction and credo, in view of the deficit that the hospital is currently running.

Hofmiller High School

City councilor Peter Warlimont took the floor on the city issues: The issue of whether the Josef Hofmiller grammar school should be renovated or rebuilt elsewhere was dealt with very intensively.

Conclusion: It is not possible to decide properly at this point in time whether new construction or renovation is better.

The fact that the SPD supports an investigation and does not want to decide in favor of one of the alternatives without a sound basis sets it apart from the other factions - apart from the Freisinger Mitte, which also supports this approach, according to Warlimont.

Talk to all sides

In general: having talks, facts and arguments with all parties involved, that's the way the SPD does politics, said local chair Teresa Degelmann.

Even and especially when it comes to sensitive issues such as the "Neustifter Feld" development plan or the planned event arena, says Warlimont.

The SPD is “fundamentally open” to the arena, but, for example, it has to be checked carefully whether the transport infrastructure is working.

Interest the youth

The Jusos want to spend more energy on getting young people interested in politics - for example through events outside and walks - and set more accents in local politics, district chairman Michael Firlus noted.
