Speech therapists, podiatrists... New professions authorized to carry out tests

The government wants to “deal with the very high demand for individual screening tests”. To meet the significant demand for anti-Covid tests, the government has decided to extend the list of professions authorized to carry out these samples. A decree was published this Friday morning in the Official Journal, signed by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran. To meet the significant demand for anti-Covid tests, the government has decided to extend the list of professions authorized to carry out these samples.

A decree was published this Friday morning in the Official Journal, signed by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

A total of 17 new professions can now perform “

nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, salivary or nasal

” tests.

Here is the full list:

  • Speech Therapist ;

  • pedicures-podiatrist;

  • orthoptist;

  • medical physicist;

  • Occupational therapist ;

  • psychomotrician;

  • audioprosthetist;

  • dietitian;

  • optician-eyewear maker;

  • orthoprosthetist;

  • pedorthist;

  • ocularist;

  • epithetist;

  • orthopaedist-orthotist;

  • dental assistant;

  • veterinarians;

  • veterinary public health inspectors.

It should be noted that these professions can only carry out tests “

under the responsibility of a health professional

” (doctor, dental surgeon, midwife, pharmacist, masseur-physiotherapist or nurse).

In its decree, the executive justifies its decision to open up the screening capacity to new professions by the "

very lively circulation of the epidemic

", and the need "

to meet the very high demand for individual screening tests

".

Last week, no less than 11.3 million samples were validated by a health professional, according to data from the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees), a figure despite everything down 6.4% from the previous week.

Thursday, 425,183 people tested positive for Covid-19, according to figures from Public Health France.
