Sometimes the where is the how. You put an interviewee in a studio, in front of the spotlights and the cameras, and even those who have more boards will be tense, careful, they might get defensive. Take it to a distant country, share hours of 4x4 on unpaved roads, climb a summit, dive among sharks or visit a nomadic tribe. And then, sitting on a log with a hot coffee or a cold beer in hand, the conversation will be easy, relaxed, frank. If, in addition, the interviewer asks the right questions and knows how to shut up to listen (it's not that difficult), confidences will flow.
It is the formula of
Planeta Calleja
, the program of the adventurer and mountaineer Jesús Calleja that achieves audience peaks for Cuatro. In Monday's episode, actor, comedian and presenter Santi Millán was taken to Ethiopia, without subjecting him to extreme tests this time. They let themselves be seduced by overwhelming nature and by cultures that we do not understand well. And Millán talked about life and his life, the world and his world. He remembered when he worked in a slaughterhouse; recounted his prison visits to the Catalan politician Raül Romeva, because he does not agree with him or with the
procés
but he is your friend;
she spoke naturally about the crises in the couple.
He explained that we all let them sell us the motorcycle of happiness and that's where the disappointments come from.
He tenderly detailed the prank he played on his father when he was dying by his side at the start of the pandemic.
And with that he defended humor as a tool to move forward: "Things are as they are, then there is how you take them."
It is said that traveling —you don't have to go so far— helps you get to know yourself.
Outside your environment you are more you.
Calleja makes good use of her recipe to bring out the most intimate side of her guests, from Ana Botín to Pedro Sánchez, from Maribel Verdú to Los Javis, from Mercedes Milá to Fernando Simón.
This escape route to screaming works.
