The love affair between the Hungarian left and anti-Semitism Israel today

2022-01-21T16:02:07.530Z

The left-wing parties in the country have joined forces with the anti-Semitic far-right party Ubik to form a coalition aimed at ending Prime Minister Victor Urban's rule.

Would you vote for a party that guarantees you eternal life, world peace, a one-day work week, free beer, two sunrises a day and a reduction in the power of gravity so you can hover a bit?

If so, and you still do not have Hungarian citizenship, it's time to start moving in that direction.

For, as Hungarian citizens you can vote for the "Double-Tailed Dog" party, which includes all the promises mentioned above and many other wonderful things.

Sounds like a sketch of "Great Country"?

Well, the "Double-Tailed Dog Party" did indeed start its way in 2006 as a parody protest movement against the political elites in Hungary, whose main activity is expressed in outdoor art (graffiti paintings, posters).

But, the joke became a serious matter: "The Double-Tailed Dog" sought to run in the 2014 general election, in 2014.

The Election Commission disqualified her participation.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the party.

Because she missed the deadline for submitting her list of candidates, due to all the bureaucratic delays, she was prevented from running in the election.

Thus, the "double-tailed dog" had to wait until the next general election in 2018, in which it won only 1.73% of the vote.

In the European Parliament elections a year later, the "double-tailed dog" already received 2.62% of the vote and in the local elections four of its candidates were elected to the municipalities of neighborhoods in Budapest.

The phenomenon of the "double-tailed dog" is evidence of the despair of certain sections of the Hungarian population from the political situation in the country three decades after the liberation from communism. This protest party was indeed formed at a time when the center-left was in power. But, in recent years it has become a vocal opponent of the conservative prime minister, Victor Urban, and especially of his opposition to opening the borders of Hungary and Europe to massive waves of migration of migrant workers and refugees from the Middle East and Africa. "Anti-anti-immigration", thus virtually ceasing to be just a joke and went into the depths of the tumultuous Hungarian political swamp, while maintaining a sense of humor. And told them: "Feel free to come to Hungary, we have already moved to work in the UK anyway",Regarding the tendency of young Hungarians to emigrate from their country because of the state of its economy.

On the other hand, only recently has the party begun marketing a computer game against Hungarian-born American-Jewish billionaire George Soros, who actually supports mass immigration policies for Hungary and Europe. Because of this support, Soros was at the center of the election campaign four years ago. Propaganda posters of the ruling party in which Soros starred were widely criticized by Urban's rivals. These argued that the PM was using antisemitic sentiments among the Hungarian population, while the posters did not address Soros's Judaism at all.

Laughter aside: The existence of the "double-tailed dog" and its strengthening among voters may affect the chances of the "just not Urban" coalition, which includes six left-wing, center-right and far-right parties, to achieve a reversal in the next election. Urban has served 12 years in a row as prime minister, a period to which four previous years have been attached, and now the 58-year-old conservative prime minister is seeking to lead Hungary to a fifth term. As Urban managed to lead his party to absolute victories in the last election campaigns and enjoy undisputed control of parliament, he was able to change the face of Hungary and pass reforms in various areas, which allowed his party - "Pidez", to increase its influence on state affairs. For this reason he was accused, inter alia, by the European Commission, of undermining democracy and the rule of law and of imposing a dictatorial regime on Hungary. Only recently has the EU Commission decided to sue Hungary before the European Court of Justice for refusing to take in refugees. The presidency of the commission is under pressure to freeze the transfer of funds to Hungary due to the adoption of a law banning the distribution of LGBT content in schools. The Conservative people in the European Parliament, and it is now in talks to form a wider faction of national-patriotic right-wing parties, such as Marin Le Pen in France and Matteo Slavini in Italy.

He is the ideological satire he represents, who promises Hungary "national unification and reconciliation" after the "years of divisions and incitement" of the Urban administration.

Immediately after his election as the opposition candidate for prime minister, Marki-Zai succeeded in launching the opposition to a leading position in public opinion polls, a very rare event in the last dozen years.

However, the period of grace did not last long and now the opposition is on a weakening path with only 45% against 49% for the ruling party according to recent polls.

There are also surveys, which indicate a larger gap.

One of the reasons for the shattering of the opposition's runway is the many setbacks that Marki-Zai has managed to amass for his duty in a very short period of time. Among them, only recently, is a statement that is perceived as anti-Semitic and evokes very unpleasant memories among circles in the local Jewish community. In one of his recent live broadcasts on Facebook, the opposition candidate for prime minister said, referring to his criticism of his ties to anti-Semitic elements from the far-right neo-Nazi party Jobik ("Movement for a Better Hungary"), the bloc that runs Marki-Zai as prime minister The government: "By the way, there are also Jews in Fidez, although only a few. I certainly know one, I really appreciate him." The quantitative reference to the number of Jews in the ruling party was reminiscent of a statement by a Jubic MP, who declared in 2012 that lists should be made of Jews living in Hungary, especially those serving in parliament and government and which, he said, posed a threat to Hungarian national security. This was not the first time that Marki-Zai was caught in an antisemitic reaction: after the Hungarian government's use of the Israeli spy program "Pegasus" was exposed to the public, he posted a photo of Prime Minister Urban on social media, with a menorah next to it. Jewish domination of the world, of course. This link is much more antisemitic than "Soros Posters", and yet it has not grabbed headlines around the world, as "Soros Posters" have grabbed. Want to target them?Soros posters, "and he still has not grabbed headlines around the world, as" Soros posters "have grabbed.Soros posters, "and yet he has not grabbed headlines around the world, as" Soros posters "have grabbed.

To the credit of some Hungarian opposition figures it can be said, that they resented the expressions of anti-Semitism of the opposition candidate for prime minister. However, the very membership of Jobik in Marki-Zai's bloc of supporters was supposed to provoke widespread criticism among left-wing and center-right voters in Hungary. This party's attempts to present itself in a new, more central light were intended to forget the fact that only a decade ago it was a neo-Nazi party, campaigning violently against minorities living in Hungary, and its former leaders espoused a racist and anti-Semitic ideology. The extremists in "Jobik" did leave its ranks and established "Beiteinu" in protest of the "concentration" of their former party. "Jobik" even headed a new leader, of Jewish descent, whose great-grandfather was murdered in Auschwitz. However, this leader, Peter Jacob, made antisemitic remarks himself, including accusing the Jews of causing anti-Semitism themselves and exploiting the memory of the Holocaust for financial purposes. Hence, there is no certainty that "Jobik has indeed changed its skin, and if - God forbid, it reaches a position of power in power, returns to Sura. In the elections four years ago, Jobik became the second largest party in parliament and the main opposition party.
