China plans to launch its new-generation Long March-8 Y2 carrier rocket between late February and early March, from southern China's Hainan Island, sources with the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology announced.
Xinhua reported that the missile arrived at the Wenchang Space Launch Center today, a week after it was transported across the ocean.
The missile will undergo final assembly and testing at the launch site, and the scheduled mission will be the first launch of a missile carried out by China this year.
The carrier rocket is 50.3 meters long, has a take-off weight of 356 tons, and uses liquid propellant with a capacity of 5 tons to reach the sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 700 km.
The missile is designed, according to the agency, to be launched from land or sea, filling the gap in China's launch capacity to sun-synchronous orbit.
