New York-Sana

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, condemned today the raids launched by the Saudi regime's aircraft on the central prison in the governorate of Saada, north of Yemen, calling for investigation and holding the perpetrators accountable.

Guterres condemned in a statement today the "air strikes" of the Saudi regime, which "targeted a prison in Saada, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries," adding that "other air strikes were recorded elsewhere in Yemen, which resulted in deaths and injuries among civilians, including children."

Guterres said that "an air strike on communications buildings in Hodeidah also caused significant disruption to vital Internet services in a large part of the country," stressing that "attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited by international humanitarian law."

Guterres called for "rapid, effective and transparent investigations" into these events with the aim of holding the perpetrators accountable, and called on "all parties to work to protect civilians from the dangers resulting from military operations."

The Saudi regime’s warplanes launched raids last night and at dawn today on the central prison in Saada, killing 70 people and wounding more than 138 others. It also destroyed the communications building in the city of Hodeidah, killing 6 civilians, including 3 children, in addition to cutting off the internet in all parts of Yemen.
