Walchensee - The evangelical church in Walchensee needs to be renovated.
The municipality of Kochel injects money into this.
The council passed this unanimously.
The places of worship in the two-lake community of Kochel are all getting on in years and have had to be gradually renovated in recent years.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walchensee is struggling with a damaged roof and cracks in the wall.
The municipality will subsidize the renovation measures with a cash injection of 3000 euros.
Regular church services
The small, chapel-like church in Walchensee was built after the Second World War for the numerous Protestant refugees by a builder from Kochl based on designs by the architect Max Unlehrt.
Regular services are still held in the church for the evangelical local residents and vacationers.
Secure buildings statically
Now the bell tower has to be re-covered and the church has to be statically secured.
A woodpecker has probably found food under the roof shingles, as evidenced by numerous holes through which precipitation can penetrate.
The side nave, on the other hand, has been split off from the main nave of the church for years.
The cracks have been observed for some time and have further split in recent years.
As Kochel's Protestant pastor Elke Binder reports, it must be assumed that the subsoil on which the church is founded with rubble stones is slowly but steadily sinking down the slope.
110,000 euros in costs
The cost of the restoration work is estimated at around 110,000 euros and is expected to be borne 30 percent by the Evangelical Church.
The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Kochel wants to finance the remainder from donations and has also submitted an application to the parish.
Mayor Thomas Holz (CSU) proposed financial support of 3,000 euros to the municipal councils and provided the numbers depending on the total cost volume to the Catholic parish churches of St. Ulrich (Walchensee) and St. Michael (Kochel) as well as to the Protestant church Grants that have been paid to Kochel in recent years.
The grant was approved unanimously and will be funded from the 2022 budget.
